If someone actually gave a "sound argument" would you actually listen?
Football is a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It's one thing to be a sterotypical, drunk obnoxious fan and just cheering wildly when your team "does something good".
It's another thing entirely to appreciate the strategy (or question it) in playcalling, the way a QB can read a defense, how well a team executed a play or how well a defender covered a receiver.
When it comes to pure excitement there certainly is an emotional reaction when a WR gets lit up by a defender that timed his hit well. There's an emotional roller coaster when a back breaks the line, gets through the secondary and is making a 40 yard dash to the end zone only to get caught and pulled down at the 2 yard line. Then you watch that team get stuffed the next three plays and settle for a field goal.
Then there is the whole nail biting aspect of the game when you have a team you are cheering for up or down by a score with a minute left and they either have to march down the field and get a touchdown or execute well on defense and prevent the other team from scoring.
If you have no emotional investment in cheering for a team (or cheering against a team) or if you don't really understand the nuances and strategy invovled in it then I can understand not liking it. It's a very rule heavy game that does have a large number of interruptions.
But to call it "boring" would be disengenuous. It is a highly physcial game, with athletes that make spectacular physcial accomplishments and many decisions early in the game can greatly impact the outcome later on.
I wonder what pecentage of a boxing match is actual punching? :hmm:94% of every game is inactivity. Think about that. What if you watched a 2 hour movie and had to sit through 114 minutes of credits?
To make things worse, the "action" segments are just a guy running with a ball in his hand. Maybe someone tackles him to the ground, so he lands gently on the soft grass while wearing 20 pounds of padding so he doesn't get hurt. Yippee, I'm excited already.
Real men watch boxing, MMA, and wrestling. Heck, even a poker game has more surprises than football.
I can see why it's the most popular sport in a country filled with overweight slobs.
After serious consideration of OP's posting history, I have come to the conclusion that OP is a troll.
I wonder what pecentage of a boxing match is actual punching? :hmm:
Anyway, wanna know how I know you are trolling?
That's because basketball is fucking stupid, and baseball, while being a great sport, just isn't compatible with modern times. Ain' nobody got time for dat.true enough, yet I'm still more entertained by football than either baseball or basketball...
All soap operas have non-stop action. If anything, wrestling is far more entertaining than football. It is full of over the top, larger than life characters, has a story, and almost nonstop action. Granted, I haven't watched wrestling since the attitude era ended, but it can't have changed that much.
All soap operas have non-stop action.
I think ibex333 takes it for the week. That is, without a doubt, the stupidest and most misinformed thing I've read here all week.
dafuq? no it's not, it's dudes talking shit to each other with microphones. They put more into the "intros" than the actual matches, which, because we know are scripted, couldn't be any LESS exciting.I never said anything to the contrary. Just that, from an entertainment perspective, wrestling is rather high intensity.
You've obviously never watched football if you think it doesn't have any surprises.
so the OP doesn't like football. OK.
I don't like watching sweaty half naked men roll around on the floor. But I don't feel the need to make a thread about it, then attack the people that do like to watch it.
