Rules make it a sport. But the entire objective of football is to do as little work as possible.

Yes, sports are often boring to watch unless you are playing it. The same could be said for porn. And often betting money on sports is the only reason so many become interested in watching it. So there's that.

And most athletes spend a whole lot more time and effort working out in preseason training than they often do in the actual games themselves. Because in preseason if they fail to excel and impress their coaches and owners, they may find themselves either sitting on the sidelines or out of a job.

As a big fan of soccer, I recently started to follow a bit of hockey. Very entertaining sport even if you don't know the teams. I agree with you rakehellion, American football sucks a little.

Does Bandy (bandy ball) get much actual attention over in Russia and former Soviet states? I know they have a league and various federations or whatever, as when I randomly stumbled on the concept I decided it was going to be my presentation topic in a Russian class in college. I just have no idea as to the popularity.

I know I sure as hell never heard of it prior to stumbling on it while initially following the wiki rabbit hole from the Russian wiki page for hockey.

And I don't know if I've ever met someone who knew about it (at least, those I've mentioned it to), including anyone in the class, including the instructor from Russia.

94% of every game is inactivity. Think about that. What if you watched a 2 hour movie and had to sit through 114 minutes of credits?

To make things worse, the "action" segments are just a guy running with a ball in his hand. Maybe someone tackles him to the ground, so he lands gently on the soft grass while wearing 20 pounds of padding so he doesn't get hurt. Yippee, I'm excited already.

Real men watch boxing, MMA, and wrestling. Heck, even a poker game has more surprises than football.

I can see why it's the most popular sport in a country filled with overweight slobs.

I feel you've never watched an MMA or boxing match if you feel they're action filled in comparison to football. Very little of those matches involve any actual action, they're mostly two men sizing each other up looking for an opening. On occasion you'll get a brief flurry of hits, but then they resume doing nothing.

1st, yea, there's a lot of "downtime" watching a football game, this is easily fixed by watching it off a DVR or recorded DVD, 2nd, yea, no one get hurt, that's why the NFL just coughed up 750 million to take care of players who have had and are still dealing with the effects of head injuries, but I guess there all faking it right??
