yeah

When i had my kids car seats put in by the sheriffs office (every now and then they have setups in walmarts parking lot. they will make sure its safe and secure) he asked if i had one. he recommended getting a tool that cuts the seat belt and is designed to smash the window.

so something like this? would be good.

Only issue is when you need it, it will be *in* the car/trunk, unless you carry it around all the time, but if you remember to carry it, then you'll remember your keys. Though it would not hurt to still carry one so you can help someone else I guess.

it's quite heavy.
The emergency hammer is made so that you can get out of a wrecked car when you have an accident, it makes sense to leave it inside.

Anyway I don't see how the car closes itself in this situation:
1. the car is old => the doors don't close by themselves, you have to click the button
2. the car is new => the car opens when the key is by the door or inside the car, or when the key is clicked
=> the car closes and the motor shuts down if you get away with the key but opens again if you get close

What am I missing?

I think they meant the window punch tool, those are really light, the one I have is the size of a sharpie. It's just a spring loaded spike, you press it into the window until it releases and it shatters it for you. Like someone said above, who carries one of those around with them? It's in my glove compt, so I guess I could help someone with it, but I obviously wouldn't be able to help myself if I locked the keys in the car.

I don't know if it requires a lot of strength or not, but one of my army buddies did this about a decade back, his fiancee at the time locked his akita in the backseat of his truck with the windows rolled up in 100 degree texas summer heat. He just made a fist around his keys with one popping out the front of his knuckles and one-shotted the window, which to my surprise just basically vaporized. I've seen baseballs hit car side windows and bounce off like rubber before.

well, if you focus the power of a punch to a key, it will penetrate the glass.

I guess so. He wasn't a huge guy or anything. I remember asking him why he didn't just use his keys to open the door, but apparently his gf/fiancee had his truck key. I don't remember how long the dog had been in there, but he popped out like he was ready for a walk, albeit a bit slowly.

My car is a mid-2000s model, and it locks itself automatically, sometimes. It's pretty random, actually, I don't know why it does it.

I assume the NCAA will investigate and find a way to sanction them and the team.

How does one fail at reading comprehension today?

here is the rub on that, this is the quote:

When they stopped, Teresa Gall told them she had accidentally locked her 17-month-old grandson, Liam, in the car — with the keys

I understand you don't comprehend much, but like to throw little stabs out there to feel better about yourself or whatever.

You don't lock a 17 month old in the car whether or not you have the keys. A car is not even safe for pets under long term conditions. Basically if you don't have you eye them the whole time it's not safe. That means windows down.

Makes sense - it concentrates the force of the impact into a tiny point. Glass no likey stress concentrations.
Metals are good at resisting damage, and due to internal slippage of grain boundaries, they can actually strengthen as they're deformed. With something like glass, once you get a crack started, it's all over. That of course is the trick though, which is what the pinpoint of the hammer takes care of.

We have one of those type hammers in our cars.

My wife (not unlike my mother) is unreasonably afraid of being trapped in the car underwater.

Side windows are hard to break. Windshields are flimsy as fuck.... Trust me, I put my fist through my windshield once..

you're really retarded aren't you? First, she didn't forget the baby and second it was a fucking accident. I'm sure you've never accidentally done anything...
