I've narrowed my choices of heatsinks down to these two. I can get the FOP32-1 for about $22 shipped,w hile the Taisol will cost me about $28 shipped. I know that the Taisol clip is easier to install, and it is quieter, but does that warrant a couple bucks? Also these two heatsinks are fairly close together, correct? Well, any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Or the Volaco II where does this fit in? I am considering these three.

That was also one of my choices, because it was #1 cheap, and #2 quiet. However, reading through some of the posts have discouraged me. I have read a few posts that it isn't too great..... anyways... BUMP

I say get the Taisol. Quiet and easy to install. The FOP32-1 clips are a pain in the @$$. And I don't know much about the Volcano II, so can't really say.

I currently own a FOP32-1 and I'm not very happy with it's performance. Also the clip is a pain. I would suggest getting the TaiSol although I don't have any personal experience with it.

The taisol is really easier to install. Also the clip on the FOP seperated when I was removing it. I have heard of it snaping when comps are moved as in LAN parties.
Go with the Taisol.

Okay, it looks like I will be buying the Taisol CGK742092. However, I'm not sure where I should buy it. It was $28 shipped @inflowdirect. Are there any other places to get it for cheaper?

Some of you guys crack me up. I'm getting tired of rumors spread about HS installations. The FOPs are VERY easy to install in fact, as are the Taisols. Basically, if one uses common sense and is at least a little bit inclined with hardware installation, NO heatsink is hard to put on a motherboard.

Just take it easy, and put the screwdriver in the right spot!

You will be amazed...

PS ----- the Taisol CGK742092 is actually harder to install (and to remove) than the FOPs since it attaches to all three clips on the socket.

the 28 from Inflow will probably be your best bet... there's someone selling them for a buck cheaper on the FS forums, but they're used... i'd pay the extra buck for a brand new one personally

What mobo you running? I wanted to grab that Taisol, but heard it wouldn't fit on the MSi K7T Pro2a's cuz of capacitators. I've heard of sanding away one of the fins or something, but I think it's too much trouble... sticking with my retail taisol that came with the CPU for now.

I bought a Taisol 742 from InflowDirect. Ordered it with the Delta 30cfm fan upgrade. The noise is very reasonable. I like this heatsink. I've got my 1.2 t bird running very smooth at 1.4. Getting temp readings of 43-45c while running Prime95 torture test and/or rc5. At idle, it drops to like 28 to 30c. Installation was decent. I flexed the clip a few times before installing. Don't know if this helps, but I figure it can't hurt. Use the proper size screwdriver and you shouldn't have any problems.

dcdomain,

you have to grind off one corner a little bit; a coil is in the way. Not too much trouble though...

I've got a Abit KT7, so space is not a problem. Chasm, what is your system temp while you are getting those nice cpu temps?

arod324; About 27c. I've got an antec sx830 case. Not modified. I want to add a couple of more fans to it and/or upgrade the stock fans.

That's gonna be awesome once I put it in my case then. (it's running @21 because I have the case open and my room is cold)

I thought the clip on the Taisol was very good indeed, I installed easily with just my hand (no screwdriver).

I found the Taisol 742 very, very easy to install. A straight slot screwdriver, used correctly with the board out of the case and it is a 5 or 10 second job tops. I have installed 8 of these.

You want a hard freak'in clip, try a coolermaster, the just bite.

Try nerdsbyte for the Taisol. Link

The Taisol has been the best thing that walked so far. Cold Forged fins when base was laid. And the clip puts the right amount of presure, in the right spot on the base, right over the core. Solid no wiggle; three tab clip design. Took a cheap skiny flat head and took some pliers and made bout a 30* bend in it and now can take it off and on in my mid tower with PSU still in on a Kt7-r. had it deliverd with 2 ys-tech 31 cfm fans fer 45. Not bad at all. and the YS-tech makes a great sub for airflow v. db.
