FOP32, Volcano II or Copper Orb on 1.33 Bird. What would you recommend.

I have to pick one up later today actually because I got a price on Bird and HS together.

Right now my choices are down to these. Noise is a factor so that's why I'm not going to any that have Delta's or 7000rpm's coolers.

1. Fop32-1 = 36dba
2. Volcano II = 31dba
3. Copper Orb = 29dba

I'm not going to overclock and noise is a consideration, I have a fop32 and it's not to bad for noise, so I'm leaning towards the VII for noise/price/performance.

The Volcano II would be less quiet(if not equal to the FOP 32-1 YS Tech) and would be adequate enough to provide decent cooling for a 1.33Ghz Tbird and it's dirt cheap to boot.

I have a VII on my 1.33@1.48 and full load temps never get above 123 degrees F. Then the temp drops to 80 in a about a minute afterwards. I've checked Sisoft Sandra temps and the Viahardware monitor and they are giving the same temps. Which means they are both accurate or off by the same amount. It also depends on you system cooling as well. Better flow equals lower temps. Good Luck!

FOP32-1 on my Duron 900....right now, under full load (RC5), it sits reliably at 41C (29-32C idle). Loud? Nope--not at all...

well well well, I ordered a package of a T-Bird with a Cooler but when I got there they didn't force me to buy a HS. I just got he 1.33 bird, I have the FOP32 right now on my duron so I'll use that one. Anyone see a problem using a used fop32 from a duron on a new bird ?

Just clean the contact area of the heatsink. If you used the PCTC of the FOP-32 with your Duron you'll have to remove the stuff now and use thermal paste.

I can't recommend the FOP's...they are good coolers, but the clips SUCK ROYAL ASS on them..

I wonder how many Tbirds and Duron's the FOP series has eaten up..

NicColt,

I just looked at the site behind your link and one comment:
What you shouldn't do again is applying thermal paste to the whole bottom of the heatsink. You should rather apply it to the core of your CPU and then install the CLEAN heatsink.

i own the fop32-1 (just slapped on a black label 7k) and I have always gotten great results with it. on my duron 850 @ 1088 i would hit about 105F and on my Tbird at 1.507 I hit 114F (without black label) and with black label i hit around 109F

beware of the clip its a bizzniaa

by that I meant, not apply the goo to the base, not as in not using the fop32. The sound level is very acceptable at 36dba.

>beware of the clip its a bizzniaa

I know, BTW if you think the clip on the 32-1 is tight, I have the Original FOP32 and that sucker is tight. but I did loosen the tention on it first.

I have both the FOP32-1 and the VolcanoII. I can say unequivocably that the VolcanoII is quieter than and cools just as well as the FOP32-1.

The only complaint I have is that I can hear the fan speed up, causing a change in pitch whenever I do anything. But that is still quieter than the FOP was.

Anyone in Madison, WI that wants my FOP for cheap?

Going cheap on a 1.33?

What about a Taisol CGK760092 That is a great cooler and protection for your investment.

I think the reason for that is more likely your Hard Drive, which makes more noise when busy, because the fan of the Volcano is not temperature controlled.

No, my hard drive has its own noise issues. If I use the VIA Hardware Monitor, I can actually see the CPU fan speed jump from 4714 RPM during no activity to 4748 RPM when I do any basic interaction, and if I do something like resize this browser window frantically it jumps again to 4818 RPM. Each time, there is a slight change in pitch.

Like I said before, it's not a big deal. It's still quieter than the FOP32-1. It's just weird. Does anyone else see this happen?

that would be great, but no ONE sells these darn things in Canada and I'm sure not buying from the U.S. untill Cdn $ get any better. To get one delivered it would be about $70-$80 Cdn. I'll stick with fop32 until they become available for a decent price.

Fop 32 is very loud! almost like an airplane engine. The Volcano II is decent and plus it is cheap. I recommend that as an alternative.
