Hi, okay well my card just back from an RMA and I'm checking if its okay.

Now i noticed that my card has a 2 diff number on it?

Do i need to register this card?

Okay back to topic.....

my idle is 58C-59C and at load...them max it ever went was 67.9C

So is this card goingto melt or is this normal temps for this card?

And what cooler would you recomend?

I was thinking of these one's:

Fan 1.

Fan 2.

Fan 3.

So what would work and be best bang for buck?

Those temps are fairly normal, my 1900XTX could manage 87 on full load on the stock cooler.

I use a VF900 on my X1900XTX, and its cooled it a few degrees (Load is about 78), but more importantly, its very very quiet now, no more hovercraft moments.

Id say go for the VF900 or the Accelero X2 (the accelero wouldnt fit in my case, and i wasnt keen on the hot air being blown directly onto the motherboard either).

I think either of them will keep it a little cooler, and silence it too.

Those temps are okay. Mine went to about 80 degrees on load at stock before I water cooled it.

Search for several reviews on those coolers. I think the Accelero fared quite well but blows air onto the motherboard.

One thing I did was hook up a small 80mm fan to a motherboard header so that it cooled the voltage regulator area on the card. The regulators were hitting over 70 degrees before I put the fan on them.

Do you think this would work on my card, like improve performance or would the stock be better then that?

As long as it cools my card and drops my temps better then stock I'll be happy.

So what do you think?

Can ou mount it properly though?? It's a CPU cooler. I think it's been done though.

I would recommend the AC Accelero X2 hands down. I am running one on my X1800XT which is heavily o/c'ed (and is a much hotter card then the XL). I run the fan @ 100% load 24/7 and its dead silent. Idle temps are in hte low 40's, and max load in a hot room has been 65C.

Heh, first vote!

I picked the accelero. I actually tried all 3 of the coolers on my x1900xt and the accelero gave me the lowest temps, as well as it cost less than the vf900. All 3 were much quieter than the stock cooler. I previously had great results with a vf700cu on my previous cards, including a 16 pipe x800gto OC'd to 580mhz, so I was surprised when it could only keep a x1900xt at 90C at full speed. Then I tried the vf900, and it was only a few degrees better, also at full speed. Then I installed the accelero, and it brough down my temps to low 80's, also at full speed, even after I flashed a xtx bios. The other coolers would not keep the card stable at xtx speeds. The downside of the accelero is that it only fits the x1k cards, so you may not be able to reuse it on other cards.

Thanks for the info, do you think the "accelero" will run my card cooler then the "ZALMAN VF700 CU" ver?

Also by how much?

In my opinion the Accelero X2 is a great cooler. It's a dead silent at 100% speed and it can be had cheap nowadays. My X1900XT went down to ~45-47 (from low/mid 50's) while idling and it loads at low 70's while maximum stress (ATI Tools artifact scanning) and at high 60's while gaming.

Artic Cooling, you can mod it with extra stuff, and it will be even more silent...

Thanks it looks like the "accelero" is going to be my choice, unless there is a better on for the cash?

Okay to bring this back, i ordered the "Accelero X2" and just need some info.

1.How do i remove the stock cooler on the X1800XL?

2.Also i'm guessing that I'm going to have to clean up my cards GPU and memory after i remove its old HSF, what should i use to clean it with?

3.And does the Accelero X2 come with some thermal paste or do i have to buy some for the GPU?

All help with this will be great.

X2 comes with paste and full instructions on fitting and removing your old cooler.

I used some alcohol swabs i got from work to clean off the old paste on the GPU, the memory should be pretty clean anyway, as long as you dont stick your fingers on it!

The x2 has the paste already applied, you dont need to worry about it.

The only (slightly) tricky bit is sticking the thermal pads to the memory chips. Just take off the backing stick all the pads to the chips and then peel the backing off the pads when your ready to face the cooler onto the card.

They are VERY sticky. It would be nice if they supplied a few spares of those instead of spare bolts.

Anyway go carefully and youl be fine.

Thanks again.
