I just heard a customer say it wrong, so since I'm bored, I posted about it.

Was it clearly enunciated as "intensive purposes" or did he just say it kinda fast with a touch of an accent to make it sound like that? Did you ask him "do you mean intents and purposes?" and then he tried to correct you?

I can understand getting annoyed by it seeing it written, but hearing it, I'd give it some leeway and go back to my sandwich.

it's "thank you" and "you're welcome"!

other debatable things that still annoy me are "sherbert" (unless your an aussie drinking a beer, just say sherbet)
and "myriad" It's a goddamn noun not an adjective! i'll let it slide if your writing peotry but in a newspaper article i want a goddamn "of" after it!

Now that I think about it, you should NOT correct us to say "intents and purposes". Instead, correct us to say "purposes and intents". That way, the grammar error will be gone, for all purposes and intents.
