Subject: RE: GOLDEN CORRAL MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT 2002

GOLDEN CORRAL'S 2nd NATIONAL MILITARY APRECIATION NIGHT EVENT OFFERS THANK YOU TO NATION'S PATRIOTS WITH FREE DINNER

http://www.goldencorralrest.com/PromoSpec.htm

Veterans Day is a celebration to honor America's military personnel for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Golden Corral and the Disabled American Veterans are joining forces nationwide for the second year in a row to honor our nation's heroes with . . .

On Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11th, from 5-9 pm, all 400+
Golden Corral restaurants spanning 39 states will offer veterans and
retired and active duty members of the U.S. military a free dine-in
dinner buffet plus beverage.

This offer is also extended to members of the U.S. Reserves and the National Guard. All that is required to receive the free dine-in buffet is that all honored military guests state their military status when coming through the ordering line the
night of the event.

hopefully ppl don't rape this...it's a nice deal for the military. It'd be nice if more merchants did the same.

Ugh... I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to keep our Vet's around for a few more years... and pumping them full of Golden Corral is not the way to do it.

Hummmmm...seems to me like they need to require some kind of proof. Everyone who is discharged receives a DD-214.

I find it amazing that for one horrific event all of a sudden the police and fireman are everyones heros while some of the lowest paid/least appreciated public servants out there are in the military. A lot of the enlisted stay in because they really have no other opportunity elsewhere ( a lot get out and become police and firemen) . People don't join the police and fire department because they have no where else to turn, they do join the military because it is a way up and out. Nice to see someone gives a crap.

Bump for the currently enlisted and vets like me.
The only other time I was involved in something where I felt wanted and proud to be in the service was in Atlanta for the Olympics.

--I am proud of myself for being in and proving that I was willing to die for the freedom that I now take for granted. Something that I think many more people should go through as well.

I doubt it, it's for veterans day.

There's one near here. I'm a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and a disabled vietvet. I think I might go even though I'm not too fond of the food at golden corral. It's really good of them to do this.
wonder if DoD civs can get in on this too.

codehack2 - you obviously have never eaten in a chow-hall then, have you? I don't think free food is going to change anyone's eating habits.

Golden Corral is to be commended for this great gesture ! ! ! !

I have to agree with that. But the in the AF the food is slightly better than some others. Can't really compare to anything but the Army. Was stationed at Ft Gordon for a while and the food was terrible. All I can say is that it is great to be at an Air Force Base again.

commOdog:
I was at Ft. Gillum for awhile and then went to help secure the national guard guys that were hold up at the "closed for summer" schools. We were their reaction security force in the event that something went down at the school against them. (Most of the schools they were cotted up at were in rough sections of ATL.)

--->Oh, and the best food at the chow hall is breakfast. I lived for breakfast! It was something like Shoney's breakfast bar. Tons of grub, none of it good for you, and none of it having much taste. It all goes down smooth thanks to all the grease and the bowel movement afterwords is incredible!!! haha.

This is a very generous thing that Golden Corral is doing...we should all be grateful for the people who have served their country. Now I wanna thread cr*p on GC. This has got to be one of the noisiest cattle feed lot eateries in the country. The food is high in starch and sodium, and the atmosphere has all the class of a military mess hall. OK, now I get the connection!

You should have to show a DD214 in order to get this. I'd hate to see a good gesture like this be taken advantage of by folks that would do anything to get something free.

Great gesture? Its marketing. Vets and military are almost certain to bring wife, kids, and other paying customers, etc.
Not that its not a nice thing, tho, it is. Its good business.

buffalotoys is right. GC wins all around on this one. Especially, considering that a GC probably runs around a 26-29% food cost. Still, my father-in-law and and my two brother-in-laws are all vets and will go together and are all 6'2" 220+lbs. They'll get their money's worth.

Yeah, but at least the trays and plates aren't made out of waste-grade sheet metal!

I suppose this should go into its own post, but knotts berry farm in Buena Park, CA is offering free admission to military and a guest for most of the month of november. I believe it goes until the 24th of this month.
