Somewhere, I read on head-to-head comparisons between the
Sanyo SCSI 12-4-32 and the Plextor 12-10-32 burn-proof IDE.
The same source CD drive was used in both cases.
The Sanyo SCSI drive was between 15% and 70% faster for
CD copying, depending
on the nature of the source CD (CDR vs. factory pressed vs
damaged vs perfect etc.).
Bottom line: If you have a SCSI setup with a 12X drive, I'd
think twice about exchanging it for an IDE drive.
On the other hand, if cejay is gonna sell you the 12x SCSI drive
WITH the Advansys SCSI card that came with it, and if you are
willing to spring for a decent CD-rom to work as source (either
Plextor 32X / 40X SCSI or else something else good), then that
12X SCSI drive he's selling for $160 is a bargain...If no SCSI
card comes with it, then I take it all back, though.
