IT is recommended to turn DMA on when using this drive..
also .. make sure you get the latest 3.27 firmware upgrade..

Adds DAO+RAW, 90min cd capability/overburn..
nice

cejay,
Have you sold the CDRW yet? You mentioned that you wanted to sell it. I am highly interested. Let me know if you still have it. My profile and Pm is enabled so you can either email me or PM me.

thanks

I've had this drive since it first came out, was very happy with the speed, just couldn't burn many games....I knew it could read all subchannels fine, just not write it...but with the firmware update...booyah...works fully now! Never thought to look up what drive it actually was (banging head).....

Still have it..(the iomega one from BB) (with burnproof)

also have a Smart&Friendly SCSI internal (no burnproof) but 12x4x32..
ITS the same as the Sanyo CDRW2
(ITS labelled Rocket Mach 12).. I will sell it for 160$ shipping included..
- dont need the scsi one as I have the iomega one now.

Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question, but what is overburn, and what are it's benefits?

Also, there seems to be a lot of debate with the fact that firmware 3.27 is for scsi not ide, not to mention it's for a sanyo drive. I'm not sure I would want to flash my burner yet with this. Why can't we wait for Iomega to put an official version of the updated firmare on their site? That way we would be assured that it truly works with ide Iomega drive and won't F-up such a nice burner - especially in light of what LumMoose said.

Somewhere, I read on head-to-head comparisons between the
Sanyo SCSI 12-4-32 and the Plextor 12-10-32 burn-proof IDE.
The same source CD drive was used in both cases.

The Sanyo SCSI drive was between 15% and 70% faster for
CD copying, depending
on the nature of the source CD (CDR vs. factory pressed vs
damaged vs perfect etc.).

Bottom line: If you have a SCSI setup with a 12X drive, I'd
think twice about exchanging it for an IDE drive.

On the other hand, if cejay is gonna sell you the 12x SCSI drive
WITH the Advansys SCSI card that came with it, and if you are
willing to spring for a decent CD-rom to work as source (either
Plextor 32X / 40X SCSI or else something else good), then that
12X SCSI drive he's selling for $160 is a bargain...If no SCSI
card comes with it, then I take it all back, though.

I was a little worried myself, because the actual firmware executable that contains the actual .bin file in it comes up in Japanese, but it worked fine for me on an IDE drive....but it sure doesn't work in NT or 2000, so I booted to Millennium (I love dual boot)...and it worked ok there.

Trust me. I called Iomega myself and asked what drive it was. And I was told it was a Sanyo 900BP... I also have installed this Firmware and it WORKS. The actual firmware is for IDE, the update utility itself was originally used for SCSI but it also works with IDE. If you go to www.firmware.com.bi this firmware is specifcally listed under IDE. Trust me it works. Iomega is lame when it comes to firmware updates.... they remove the Subchannel and DAO because they dont WANT you copying protected software! Add on top of that they RARELY release firmware. I have yet to hear one person would tried this firmware and it didnt work..... if you have a Iomega 12x4x32 with Burn Proof this firmware WORKS! I swear on my life.... and others here have said it does also. So no offense but stop being a weenie and pimp out that drive!

And LumMoose is right.... the software wont run in Win2K only 98 ME 95 etc.... although I didnt try acompat.exe to trick the program into running on 2000.

I found a review of this drive! And here is the proof you wanted!

Here is the link! Keep in mind that the firmware fixes every downside they listed! I know Ive tried them! Also look at the picture.... it looks EXACTLY like my Iomega drive.... even the words Burn Proof are in the same spot and same font/size!

http://www.cdrinfo.com/hardware/sanyobp900/index.shtml

<< 1) Sanyo don't sells CDR-W drives under their brand. Sanyo sells OEM which means you will find similar drives under others brands ( Lacie, Plextor, Iomega)
2) You can buy a drive based at Sanyo CRD-BP2 at www.perfectcdrw.com (US and Canada)
3) You can buy a drive based at Sanyo CRD-BP900P from www.iomegadirect.com hopefully soon...(Wordwide shipping?)
>>

And you wondered if this drive was the Sanyo.... there you do it says Iomega sells it

<< After living with the Sanyo CRD-BP900P for almost 1 month, we can say for sure that the BURN-Proof works very well with the IDE interface. The drive has no problems when writing at maximum speed (12x). Buffer under runs are a distant memory! All tests were completed ok and didn't have many problems.

The only complaints from the CDR capabilities are:

a) The lack of "RAW" writing feature for CloneCD compatibility.
b) No "Overburn" features.

Hey don't be afraid to start playing your favourite game at the same time you burn a CD. This is a must for all gamers
>>

No worries there The new firmware adds both of thoose because Ive used both so I know
There is also a complaint section in the review.... the ONLY thing negative this firmware doesnt fix is DAE.... I tested it and its at about 14X with this firmware.... the plextor is 16X... big deal. Also the problems they had with making some images where totally fixed with this firmware... Ive tried them.

BTW Dont I rock? LOL Im so happy Im finding all this info.... its reassuring me I bought the RIGHT CDRW! Why buy a plextor for 210 when we got the Iomega for $150 or less and the only thing the Plextor has over the Sanyo is an extra 2X in DAE! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO Im so happy with this purchase!

cejay-
I responded earlier to your post when you mentioned you might want to sell the BB drive. I noticed someone else was interested and was wondering if you had responded to anyone yet? I am still very interested. I am new around here but I have an established history on (that auction site we can't mention!). My profile is active. Send me an email if it is still available.

Thanks!

Anyone know the answer to the PSX question I asked earlier? Do you need a mod chip if this drive backs-up PSX games 1:1??

There's no way around it, otherwise you'll see them out on the market already.

Golem, how do I tell if it reads subchannel data ? Mine backs up safedisk, but I don't think that involves the subchannel.

I was just at the B&M Best Buy over here and they are now selling this drive on the Shelf for 179.00 (Actually I think it said $175.00 but I know it was at lease $179.00). The box still had the sticker for $229.00 or something but the sign on the shelf had the cheaper price. They had one left. I didn't buy it because the box looked a little damaged. Is this still a good deal if we missed the $150???

I'd say any price lower than 250 is good, that's what I paid back in June when they first came out Of course I did sell my 4x HP so I had some cash to splurge and go all out, but it's an excellent drive and with the Burn-Proof and no coasters....it burns anything I have put in it fine at 12x, from Ritek CD's to CMC Magnetics, Princo, etc, etc....
