For around $350, is the GTX970 or R9 290x my better option?

You enjoying that free medical and education?

Believe me, what we don't pay in VAT like you, we pay with the skin off our backs with the sheer amount of tax and we still have to pay for the rest of our natural lives for our educations and medical coverage.
Sorry for the side note. It was just funny you said you were jealous of us. Don't be..

We do pay for the NHS though , we are taxed national insurance which is meant to be used to pay for the NHS

Higher education is also not free either (in England)

Interesting. I thought a substantial purpose of the excessive VAT was to pay for medical coverage and higher education for its country's people. Not true?
Sorry to go off topic. PM me if you would.

I have no idea about sale taxes in the US, but the UK sale tax (VAT) is 20%. You do get free medical care and free education up until you are 18 years old. The only problem is the medical care isn't the best and there are very long waiting times for operation. You get a lot of immigrants coming just for the medical care and it has put a massive strain on the NHS. There is no choice, you have to have the NHS service, or pay twice to have private health care. But having said that, I would rather have this system, as I would hate to see doctors turn people they can help away.

With out thinking of the bigger picture, that price is just insanely cheaper than what we have to pay here.

In the states a hospital can't turn someone away based on their ability to pay. It's not like if you have a broken leg and no insurance or cash/CC in your wallet to pay the fees you get put out on the street.

How does it work...my only knowledge of the American health service is from watching scrubs and House.

They send you a bill. They can't legally refuse you medical treatment if you go to an ER at the hospital though because you can't pay. Unless it's elective treatment, of course.
