For contact lens wearers

I'm wanting to get some contact lenses ASAP. I currently wear glasses, though I used to wear contacts, but it's been 5-6 year since I last wore them IIRC.

I'm looking for your basic lenses, focusing on comfort/quality. Not looking for colors. Just want some good quality, and comfortable lenses. Will go the disposable route, though not sure if I'm wanting the one day use ones, or maybe the 1-2 week ones (been out of the contacts loop for a while).

And also, some good places to buy these recommended brands at a reasonable cost.

I dont like the 30 day type and neither does my dr.


supposedly costco has good prices... but i've always bought online... www.1800contacts.com or the like

go to your docotr and he'lll measure you eye and direct you to the best conact type. Then get your prescription and go to costco. Its a rip to get them at the drs.

The B&L Extended wear contacts I use are great. I can wear them continueously for a few weeks. I usually remove and rewet them in the middle and the end of the month to avoid any dryness. They are far more confortable than my old 2 week disposable lenses because of the much higher oxygen count. Also the convience factor of not needing to handle them daily saves time and money. But extended wear contacts are not for everyone.

I have Frequency 58s. They're pretty good. I think they're the 1-2 week ones but I stretch them out to 2 months... whenever they get uncomfortable I toss 'em. I wear them every day for about 16-18 hrs/day.

go to an eye doctor first. an opthamologist and not an optometrist. they will "fit" you for lenses. measure base curve and power needed. do not cheap out on this.

I use Focus Monthly and have for several years now. For some reason, Acuvues give me sharp stabbing pains in my eyes after about an hour, so I can't wear them.

I like Accuvue 2's also.. They are pretty comfortable in my eyes for days at a time. I like to take them out every 3-4 days, though.

I'm happy with the Accuvue daily wears but I'm gonna try the Focus dailies to save money. I get mine through 1-800 contacts which is a lot cheaper but you need to fax them a prescription.

dude i switched over to acuvue advance from acuvu2.
These are so much more comfortable.

Get Acuvue Advance. My eyes use to get really dry using the acuvue 2. Acuvue Advance solved that problem.

I rarely use rewetting drops now.

I wear 2 week disposables and used to wear Acuvue/Acuvue 2 but my eyes kept on getting very dry at the end of the day. I tried ProClear for a year, which were great but now I wear Optix which are even better.

I have Focus Night & Day 30 day disposable lens, and they are awesome. Coupled with a prescription for Patanol (which is an optical anti-histamine), it's possible to wear them for more than a month, but I usually take them out weekly (overnight and soak in solution).

most people i know use acuvue, and i tried those out initially but they didn't fit my eye. i've been wearing biomedics 55 for over year two years and they fit great.

Sorry, guess I forgot to mention something. On the 16th of this month, I went in for Lasik evaluation, got all the tests done etc. So I believe I have the #'s of my prescription, hopefully all the info needed for contacts as well. I was gonna get the surgery on the 23rd, yesterday, but financing, and questions about cost has had me postpone my operation to a later date.

Not sure if I can ask the doctors where I plan to get Lasik to recommend a good contact brand or not.

I had heard about AccuVue2's (mainly on TV commercials), was thinking about them, but you guys are throwing so many brands my way, a little unsure now =) Don't want to pay for another doctor's visit, as I only plan to be wearing contacts for maybe 2-3 months max (when I'll be getting the Lasik procedure).

Just got contacts for the first time on Mon. She gave me Frequency 55 and they are pretty comfortable but then I don't have anything to compare them too.

i am using one day disposables for about a week per each pair, seeing how my roomate never has problem doing that. seems to be working just fine so far.

so i'm assuming you're going to an online shady dealer to buy your contacts since most places verify your prescription?

you really should go get a lens fitting. like i said, i thought acuvue's would work for me but the lenses were too small for my eye. the eye doctor didn't catch it until i came back a week later for the follow up.

I also wear Focus Night & Day and they are great. I tried them out early last year after my optometrist recommended them. Unlike the Acuvue's I used to wear, the Night & Day contact lens ddid not dry out. It was very noticable when I worked out in Phoenix for few weeks during the summer on Nissan's proving ground. I never had a problem with the Night & Day popping out of my eyes because of dryness.:thumbsup:

couple years ago, i watched on Dateline or 60 Minutes or something similar where they compared the different types of contacts, (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly...) the conclusion was that they were all made the exact same way with the same material and that there should be no problem to wear the daily's for prolong period of time with normal cleaning and maintenance.... i don't know if the same applies to the newer brands and types of contacts.
