For everybody with an EPOX 8K7A

I was just wondering if it's just me or not. When I go into my CMOS and set the system performance to fast instead of normal it freezes alot. I forget where in CMOS it is but I know it's there. Does anybody else have this problem? Is there anything I can do to keep it from freezing?

i have all my settings at normal. r u sure ur ram can handle the faster settings?

Yeah, your RAM is not cutting it. Leave it a normal.

what kind of mushkin ram? basic, or high performance? what is the latency of ur ddr?

Your luckier then I am... mine crashes maybe 2-3 times a day in 3D programs... Its not the CPU, its not the RAM, its not the PSU, its not drivers, its not the OS, its not the software, Ive tried literally everything, started happening about 2 months ago, and it just cant be fixed.

Couldn't tell you. All I know is that it has a heatsink thing on it and it is PC2100 Mushkin DDR. How would I find out the rest? Just look on the memory chip?

What powersupply do you have is my question? That Epox board seems to cause grief with a number of supplies - it even started the Enermax bad 5-volt line 'rumor' around here. Other supplies seemed to have the same problem (low 5V line) but the Enermax has gotten the blame, unfoundedly.

That being said, my Enermax 431 just bit the dust on the 5V rail this week, but it wasn't an Epox problem.

Mine always crashed before... though I got new Mushkin RAM, I'll have to try it and find out. I'll post back my results a little later.

Ya this EPOX board sucks, sorry to say it, I dont know why it was ever recommended. I use a Enermax 431 myself, but Ive tried my friends antec and my enermax 330, still crashes. I have Crucial PC2100 thatll run 166 Cas2 on my friend A7V333. Even tried his video card.

I'm actually using a COMPUSA brand Powersupply. It's 500 watts. I'v checked my voltage with motherboard monitor ( I think it was motherboard Monitor ) and I was getting 12.1v , 3.2 v, and 4.95 v.

to be honest, i don't know how u can tell. the only way i can tell is before i buy it. i do not know if it is marked on the dimm itself. maybe there is a software out there that could help?

I have an Epox 8k7a, and it runs fine in normal and fast. I have crucial ram. How much of a performance increase will one see if it is set to fast?

<< Sytem performance has 2 options: Normal and Fast. Normal automatically sets the ram timings to a rather conservative setting while fast gives very aggressive timings. Then again, the memory settings can still be manipulated but normal and fast are the pre-defined values if ever your memory can handle the settings. >>
