Seen a number of threads to this effect in the past although I've never had an issue myself.

This little screwup however may prove expensive!

Time to start shopping elsewhere I guess.

While NewEgg's service has never been top-notch...it really went to shit when they became 100% Chinese owned a few years back.

I thought their service was pretty good way back in the day. I don't buy much computer stuff anymore, and when I do, it's either microcenter or an office supply store in person.

If there's a big enough price difference I will use NE but, typically stick with Amazon as they're less hassle to deal with. In the case of my ADL build I used NE for the Asrock MOBO I had my eye on since they're one of the primary distribution options w/o waiting for the MOBO to trickle down to Amazon.

NE though while they have an expansive selection of inventory tend to be pricier and a PITA to deal with when returning things.

I miss the days of getting free Newegg swag with orders. I still have and use my Newegg beach towel that I got ages ago.

One reason why I still sometimes gravitate to Newegg over other stores is that they let me specify my shipping speed. With Amazon, you just get it whenever Amazon decides to ship it with no option to pay more for faster speeds. With Newegg, if I want it tomorrow and order it quickly enough -- the one negative is that "quickly enough" depends upon the shipping location, which is unknown until you order -- I can just select the option to get it the next day.

The swag they sent me was mostly junk...like the thumb drives they sent out...none of which ever worked...or the crappy plastic license plate frames...

Best Buy, BH Photo, etc. I rarely buy anything from Newegg anymore.

Boy, when I saw the story (Twitter) when it first happened, and I thought it was bad publicity for Newegg.

However, with Steve still deciding to do a feature video about this just showing how bad Newegg has become with customer service / returns is brutal.

Between the press they've received concerning the forced exploding Gigabyte power supplies in order to get video cards, to being among the first retailers to price gouge the hell out of GPUs, it hasn't been a good year for them (related to company image).

Microcenter is another option.

I didn't use Newegg for years after they started going downhill but for some reason during covid I've used them a few times for some bigger ticket items. So far so good. Plus I got their credit card which let me buy a monitor with interest free payments so that was cool.

I don't use them much since the buy out. They had the best interface when searching through products, B&H has something similar, but not nearly as many choices when trying too narrow things down. Amazon can be a complete crapshoot at times - showing items unrelated to search terms.

I bought my mITX case from New Egg. It came in perfect shape and it was a 1/2 price sale.

Cambridge 😃 that’s mine! Got my 5900X and 3080 both at msrp within weeks of release. Microcenter is the best, love going there. I can’t even remember the last time I ordered from Newegg. Must have been when I was a teenager building my first socket 939 computer.

I think I'm about 1200 miles from the closest one. (Tustin, CA)

There is a Fry's in Renton...about 125 miles. Haven't made the trip in 9 years of living here.

Everything I've heard indicates Fry's has turned down sharply over the last few years, so I haven't bothered either, even when I've already been in Renton.

Yeah, that makes sense, I saw some pictures from the inside of one last year, maybe the year before, with a bunch of empty shelves, kinda made it seem like that was the way it was headed.

I have a MC within 10 minutes but, they're not compelling for the hassle of going in store on most things. I did get my ADL 12700K there because it was $20 cheaper and in stock back in Nov. Most other resources were marked up considerably and had delayed shipping.

downside is they always have lines that are quite long.

Precisely when I closed my NE store account and stopped ordering from there. It took only a few months (from the buyout) for their service and the quality of packing and shipping to dive off the end of the pier.

I miss how they were 10 to 15 years ago, but I'll go to almost any other online retailer now before the Egg, just based on the last few orders that I placed with them (and how the ordered items arrived).

I'm not a fan of Amazon's navigation/search, the limited selections, or how they will often pack and ship items (ie insufficiently). But the returns are easy and almost never denied. Returns at Newegg were somewhat of a crapshoot even before they got bought.
