For Lexus GX 460 owners

Is the car truly as indestructible as they say? Long story short my young daughter loves camping and we have been tenting it for 2 years now but my in-laws just bought a lightweight camper (~3600lbs loaded) and they said we can take it whenever we want. We bought an EV this year for day to day driving so now looking for something that's super comfy, reliable, and can tow for road trips. We went and looked at a 2017 Lexus GX 460 that was basically brand new at 22k miles for 34k asking which we can probably negotiate a little lower. It is incredibly comfortable and we can see ourselves using it on long road trips during the summer. Other than that it won't get used as a daily driver because we have the EV for that. We tend to keep our cars for 10-12 years so want something bulletproof.

Other than our EV all we have ever owned are Hondas and Toyotas and they have all been bombproof. Not sure if Lexus basic maintenance is more expensive than Toyota even though the GX 460 is basically just a Prado 150.

No car is indestructible in the face of age BUT it should be drama free for the next decade.
Expect a water pump job in 2030 and some minor oil leaks around the 120K mark.
Also in 2030..strangers asking you if you ever considered getting a lift kit for it.

they are very reliable, but they are also a 20 year old design that is terribly inefficient.

that does sounds like a ok price though, at least compared to around here.

The answer to that question is this: Are you going to use a Lexus dealer for service or a Toyota dealer? Makes a huge difference in prices.....

For instance, I owned a 2007 GX 470. Had an estimate for water pump/timing belt replacement done at a Lexus dealer and a Toyota dealer. The Lexus dealer was hundreds more expensive for the same exact repair with the same exact parts. (Over $1200 quoted from the Lexus dealer while the Toyota dealer quoted $775. Guess which one we used....)
