Got my MOBO today. Ordered 10/25

Rookie question...First time installing INTEL CPUs... Since my 400MHZ CPU!

I now have the CPU and Heatsink and fan. In the past I used Thermal Gel between the CPU and Heatsink...(AMD Chips)

I assume I do not need any gel between this type of CPU and Heatsink?

Please let me know..

Sircoop

SAYS" INTEL designed Thermal Solution"on CPU box...

Your Intel heatsink should have a thermal pad on it. That replaces the 'gel' you used to use.

I was wondering since I have 2100 memory from my old comp, if I should upgrade to something better for this to be worthwhile and work correctly. I'm only looking to spend like $75 max so probably some pc2700 would be best. Any recommendations?

Depends what prices you can get... for me, locally, it made more sense to get the insane PC3200 only because it was only a dollar or two more than the PC2100/2700 prices!
2100 and 2700 were both exactly the same, 3200 less than two dollars difference... and cheap too.

Ahh.... life is good. Can't wait for it to arrive.... mine still hasn't shipped.

get yourself pc3200 ram, you won't regret it trust me, but if u get pc2700 i guarentee u will. wonder why your upgrading ram? cause you bought slow ram before, just think the next time you upgrade, you might not have to buy newer ram, but with pc2700 you might have to. your choice.

Just got an email stating that the deal expired and I did not get it on it in time I submitted it on the 11th. They tried to verify my employment twice, but my boss never got a call. This kinda upsets me ... was going to give it to my parents and brother for x-mas. They aren't going to be overclocking so I figured this board / proc was clutch.

Anyone here looking to sell their board? I checked eBay and combo's are going for well over $300 w/o the XP Pro license......

I hope everyone enjoys there combo and while waiting for it to ship ... I guess feel lucky you got in at all.....

Umm... Dell has never had a 3.0 gig for 300 bucks and DELL makes you jump through hoops on many of their deals.

!@#$(%!~ FRICKA-FRACKA ZARG BARG FARG-A-DING-DONG!! #$&#%^ :| :| :|

I just called Intel again. If you didn't get your order shipped already, you'll be waiting until JANUARY 1, 2004 for it to ship!! :| :| :| :| :|

They'd darned well better give me a better processor than the 3.0 to make up for the horribly long wait. AND the fact that by the time it arrives, the "deal" will be almost negligable!

Is anyone here an active Intel Product Dealer (IPD) who missed the recent show and so didn't get their code for the motherboard/CPU deal, which is the same as Retail Edge deal (3GHz CPU) except it's a D865GRHL board (mini-ATX) and $219 instead of $199 (with the same backorder)? If so, I don't need mine, and am willing to let it go for the princely sum of one MILLION dollars. No, seriously, for free, but please be an Active member, otherwise they won't sell it to you. Offer expires 12/23 or while supplies last.

How in the heck does Intel runs out of its own products? This is very bad news that Intel has to backorder for over a month. Even the worse retailer in the world does not even backorder that long.

On the topic of memory, I tried putting in my 2 sticks of PC2700 Crucial memory, configured for dual channel (one in each bank). The sticks were the same Part Number but purchased about 6 months apart. My system would randomly reboot. I reconfigured it to single channel mode (both sticks in one bank) and the rebooting issue goes away. Just wanted to say that it probably is important to by matched pairs (like the Kingston Hyper X deal) if you want to push this to the limit. I'll probably keep my setup in single channel mode, becasue I don't need a little bit more speed for $219.....

Could it be that PC2700 isn't for 800MHZ (200) bus speeds?? My guess dual channel is just enough to make your memory scream uncle...

This mobo runs fine with PC2700 in DC. Chad52 has some other problem.

I am currently running two Kingston pc2700 512 mb unmatched modules in dual channel mode. One module has infineon chips and the other has hynix and I have them running at 400 mhz and my machine is running great. I haven't installed any games yet, but everything in XP cruises along, CPUz tells me my memory is running at 400 mhz. I was going to order some new memory, but if my setup keeps working I may hold off.
