Unbelievable. They basically give you a 3GHz/mobo/XP Pro for $200. and you're mad about some delay?!
You deserve to work in retail, and may your customers be impatient, rude, and elitist.
Newsflash: Intel doesn't owe you anything, those of us who don't work in retail would pay over $500 for that stuff.

I don't feel like Intel owes me anything, but they are at fault in this situation.
Intel limited the amount of people that could order this year, thus they new the amount to have in stock & ready to ship before the sh!t hit the fan.

Plus if this was happening to you I bet you would be upset also. And why the hell are you even in this thread if you're not eligible?

Will this new substitute board fits into a regular size ATX case? Or is it too small? This board comes with LAN right?
Thanks.

I would be frustrated, but I wouldn't be posting "Intel better give me something free for my wait!" and "I like my Athlon motherboard better anyway!" like Bluemax.
You see, when someone is nice enough to GIVE me over $300 worth of stuff free, I don't bitch about the delivery time.

As far as why I'm on the thread, it's a free country, this thread isn't some retail only club.

If you think his sense of "entitlement" is perfectly normal and justifiable, why don't you e-mail a link to this thread to Intel so they can see what the beneficiaries of their generosity are doing with it?

They might be interested to know how a bunch of you think it's your "right" to keep double shipments, that you deserve more free stuff for delays, and P4 3GHzs aren't any good after Christmas because more people will have them.
Next years deal might be "Pay full price like everybody else because last we checked not having a high paying job isn't grounds for special treatment".

What do you think Schdaddy?

Okay. We'll remember this outlook the next time you get a nice sale price from Best Buy or Newegg - if you place your order and they tell you that in order to get the sale price you have to wait MORE THAN TWO MONTHS to get it.

ESPECIALLY after you were told in a telephone call you'd receive it in only two weeks and you sold your existing computer to make room for (or pay for) the new.

AND the fact that after the very long wait, the "awesome sale price" is not so awesome anymore because the technology has dropped off the bleeding edge and has come down in price considerably.

All in all, by the time the board/CPU/OS arrives, I'll have only saved a couple hundred bucks CANADIAN over just buying it straight from a local or online retailer! That is NOT worth the hassle and juggling I've had to do because they broke their word and forced me to wait in a queue that only seems to keep getting longer.

This WAS an awesome deal a couple months ago. By January, it'll be barely "warm" because of the P4 price drops.
Will it be worth the purchase price? Yeah, it's still almost 200 Canadian cheaper. OS for free with purchase of retail parts. Is it worth being told to wait for months on end after an empty - and broken - promise? No.

Am I quite happy with the AMD combo that replaced it for about half the "super deal" cost? Absolutely!

Will I recommend Intel after this? Possibly, but they'd have to make the Retail Edge deal as awesome as it was two months ago in order to make me a "fan" again. And they'd have to deliver the $%^#@ thing!!

If a company royally pi$$ed you off, you'd be cheezed too.

Bluemax: A P4 3.0 GHz retail costs $264 here from newegg now. There's no way it's going to much less than $200 next month. So you're still getting the Win XP Pro and the motherboard FREE.
Quit your whining. Why Intel thinks retail employees are a special class of citizens and deserving of their charity is beyond me, you should just be glad they do.

Well, back in the day, it took two months for Intel to ship their P2-400s when they did this. Then we just got lucky they streamlined their process one year and we got the packages relatively quick. One would think you would go backwards in shipping/packaging programs, but hey it happens i guess.

Just got a new Max PC mag, and according to them, they predict ddr2 to be the "in" thing in 04. I might just hobble on my RDRAM for one more go of it, instead of sinking bucks into ddr1 Don't know what to do with the 800 bus though...

Your $200 is not MY $200. I have to pay duties and taxes bringing it past the Canadian border, upping the cost considerably. In the end, I'd get a sub-$200C operating system free and that's it. And I don't really need it either.
Your reference to "charity" and putting down any and all retail employees is pretty low.... either you're miffed you couldn't get in on the deal, or are fortunate to have a good-paying job and look down on anyone less than your lofty status. Believe me, it hurts to work retail after sinking more than ten grand into my education only to not be able to find IT work for the life of me. This was one of the VERY few perks that come our way.

An it's not charity... it's them partly paying you back for taking the time to do their "training courses" and more as an advertising campaign to buy some Intel Evangalists. They pretty much say exactly that on the Retail Edge site.

Yes I'm ticked it's taken more than two months already with more wait to go, and the fact I won't really be saving much anymore. I'm more ticked they SAID it was coming and, once my computer was sold and gone, decided to "bamboozle" me with a, "Whoops! Guess it's not coming for a couple months instead. Ha ha! Enjoy the wait!"

I've been in sales a long time, any company with this kind of policy loses sales. But with a slick marketing campaign and OEM's like Dell in the palm of their hand, they can sweep plenty of losses under the rug.

Again I wonder why you are here.

Chill out! So what if a few retail associates are upset & say rash things about Intel?
They have the right to feel upset although some of the comments/actions are irrational - it's the same freedom as to why you are participating in this thread.

I don't agree with the keeping of double shipments & saying "they owe us something" but I'm very displeased with the fact they knew what to expect & shipments are running late. And to make matters worse, I'm no longer receiving the original board & they are trying to play it off as an upgrade ... like I said before I don't agree with some of the comments/actions made here, but you would be upset just like me if this was happening to you, regardless of how truly great this deal is.

And your comments about retail employee?s wages are just childish. So please refrain from posting in this thread again since you do not contribute anything to it.

let's get back on track here, shall we fellas?

just called intel and requested to hold out for the original mobo featured with this bundle. spoke to richard at intel, and told me that what we was going to do is place my order on hold until all the orders that have been substituted have shipped out. he will then remove my order from its hold status, and then have it shipped once the original mobos return to stock. fyi, for those of you who do the same, expect the origianl D865GBFL mobos to return to stock towards the middle or end of january, according to what the intel rep told me. i'm holding out because i could use the extra pci slots, which appears to be the only *real* difference between the two.

Ever hear the Tom Leykas show? I would be yelling "Thank you Jesus"if I was getting this stuff for $200, delayed or not, subbed motherboard or not. It's just a good deal, period.

This is like winning ten million in the lottery and then bitching they won't pay it in a lump sum.

StaysCrunchy, another real difference besides the form factor is Gigabit Ethernet, though I don't believe that would be notable for most people. I am curious how anyone can be using so many PCI cards these days though. What four or more cards do you anticipate possibly using?

Sound Card
TV Tunner

Stayscrunchy and Forcemac:
I feel your pain at this latest treachery by Intel. Were it legal to do so, I would give you $300 for the crappy new 3 pci mobo, P4 3GHz, and Win XP.
Maybe the $100 profit would do some small part to compensate you for your loss and the deceipt, maybe not.

maybe it's not such a bad thing. they won't charge my credit card until the package actually ships, which works out being that the holidays have been expensive this year. a mid-january ship date would give me time to recover, and hopefully come across a great deal on memory. (i snoozed on the kingston 1 gig hyper x deal for $173.)
