Posts in the For Sale/Trade sub-forum should not count towards post count; or at least, any posts made after the initial post.

Why? Because many people, myself included, regularly bump their own FS/WTB topics up, and add to their post count in doing so, which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. I'm not saying they bump topics up for that reason alone, but it shouldn't add to post count simply by virtue of it not being an actual post, and in that it in no way contributes to the knowledge-base of the forum.

For example, I artificially added 7 posts to my post count in this thread alone: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=45&threadid=2298629

How? By bumping the thread 7 times.

I literally feel like I'm "cheating" the system if I bump it up again. I genuinely want to find someone who can sell me that motherboard, and thus bump the thread, but I also genuinely don't want to synthetically add to my post count.

So my proposition is (if at all possible on the technical side of things):

...For posts made in the For Sale/Trade sub-forum:
  • - Make the 1st post of any thread count towards the poster's post count.
    - Make subsequent posts in that same thread by the thread starter not count.
    - Make all subsequent posts made by anyone other than the thread starter count towards the poster's post count.
...Or, an alternate version:
  • - Make only the 1st post of any poster in any thread count towards their post count; that is, no matter how many times you post in a given thread, you will add only 1 to your post count.

IMO an auto-bump feature would make more sense and would be fair. Everyone's threads get bumped until the items are sold.

If you're gonna take away post count for this, it opens the can of worms for neffing, trolling, name calling, et cetera ad nauseum.

Besides, post count isn't everything. I don't want to be a lifer in 50 posts.

I don't really understand why anyone cares about their post count, it's completely irrelevant. What does it matter if someone has 10K posts exclusively from bumping FS/T threads? It doesn't.

However, an auto-bump feature (every 4 hours) for FS/T would be cool as it would save the OP having to remember going back to bump it every 4 hours and would stop early bumping.

It's not an issue of post count meaning anything per se, but if you're going to document and keep track of it, you might as well make it as accurate a representation of contributions to the forum as you can, explaining the logic behind my original post.

I subscribe to this reasoning.

Your logic seems sound but I guess you've never ventured into OT? 90% of posts there are nef posts. I know cause I contribute to alot of them  Post count doesn't really matter anyhows - it appears the most valued posters are the lurkers.
