Have a Compaq p1210, it was great. Then it Broke, the display lost almost all brightness after being exposed to heat and smoke from a fire.

bump for CRT

The three "high speed" TFT's I use simply can't hold a candle to my Mitsubishi 2070SB 22 incher when it comes to high refresh gaming.....

I do prefer them for everyhting else though......

CRT is not really debated as inferior visually by even knowledgable LCD purists. The problems with LCD's are even with the best color, it's only 'close'...you still suffer ghosting, and you are locked into native resolution to get the ultimate sharpness.

CRT's problems are just size and heat. If you have the room (my desk is about 3' deep) and room cooling they are best at performance.

High end LCD's come extremely close, and give great desk space saving as well as little heat.

soon lcds might be even cooler? i think they are moving to led, atleast thats what steve jobs is claiming apple is doing soon.

It's not avaliable. There's no way they can do that, given the light bleeding problems.
Go with a CRT if you are a professional, or do that a lot.

I still love my two P1130s.

Granted, for text, a LCD is better, but CRTs absolutely blow the LCDs away when you try watching movies, and stuff. And you have a HDTV too. Just crank the resolution up, make sure it's well calibrated and you'll destroy all the LCDs.

LCD FTW

20" widescreen LCD resolution: 1680x1050
21" CRT resolution: 2048 x 1536/75hz, 1600x1200/85hz

OS workspace FTW! Assuming you can live w/ the heat and size of the monitor. Unfortunately for me, space/power use wins over pure picture quality.

I just returned a 22" Samsung LCD because it had a worse picture then my CRT. It wasn't terribly bad or anything just the colors and black wasn't very vivid.

What's the point of upgrading when the picture is worse then a 5 year old monitor ?

I'll wait until they replace LCD's with something better.

Samsung has a history of replacing great lines that have 8 bit panels with 6 panels just to save money after the great reviews are out. I'm in graphic design and I'd choose a high quality LCD anyday. A quality CRT is very hard to find now a days. The problems you guys talk about are long gone. If you're discussing ghosting and dull colors with LCDs, we may as well discuss flickering with CRT's.
