is screaming at the top of your lungs while you are wandering around grocery shopping. This lady just kept wandering around and did nothing for about 10 minutes other than say "Oh my someone is going to sleep well tonight".

sadly that is what some "experts" say to do. not give in and let them scream while you walk around the store.

Me? When my kids did that i would take them to the van and either feed them or have them sit. Screaming in public is not allowed. IF its because they are hungry or tired you should take care of that before you leave for the store/restaurant etc.

If its because they want something and are having a hissy fit because you said no you take them out of the store.

It took 2-3 times for my kids to find that tactic did not work.

My ex-gf would reflexively say, "kill it!" anytime she heard a baby crying or a kid screaming.

She has two young adult children.

Some people are much more sensitive than others when it comes to the babies cry.

When I'm walking by such child, I don't care at all, and I always smile to his face in hope to calm him down (which honestly never happened ).

My mother employed a very good tactic when I would act up and cry because I didn't get my way: "Stop crying or I will give you something to cry about!" And, if I didn't heed the warning, I got popped in the mouth.

Yep. Kids aren't stupid. They begin manipulating at 2 yrs old. Parents that don't get their kid under control early in life, normally have larger problems down the line.

For a screaming kid, you pull them aside and tell them to stop the crying or they are going to get spanked and will not be allowed to come to the grocery again (normally kids like going to the grocery). I never did any of that shit when I was a kid and neither did any of my siblings, so quit with the, "sometimes you can't do anything crap." Get your stupid kid under control!

+1

A child under two is problem; the only thing you can do is shop the other side of the store.

Those 'out of control' are really obnoxious and as the OP said doing nothing when your child's actions are discourteous to all the shoppers and employees in the store is not the proper behavior of the adult. The fault lies in the parents, not the kid.

That doesn't mean you have smack the kid but if necessary, the parent should stop shopping and take the kid outside. The kid will get the message soon enough. My day, my progressive parents. enlightened by Dr. Benjamin Spock's book, would have added extra chores which would have cut into my play time, But like JackBurton I didn't do that neither did other kids.

There are tactics you can apply in a restaurant or Pizza place to counteract such irresponsible parents but in a grocery store it is difficult without being excessively rude. The fact is the parent, because of his or her failure to consider others, is being excessively rude. I less couth shopper might say do something like referring to a women parent as a female dog or a man as the male offspring of a female dog; the once getting the irresponsible parents attention say "Shut the 'expletive deleted' kid up!" While I won't say it; I would join in with a 'here, here' say 'my thoughts also'.

I saw a lady at Walmart go nuts on a guy for spanking his misbehaving kid, made a huge scene out of it and it was literally nothing but a couple whacks on the butt. People these days are all over the place in regards to kids, you can't do this but do that and vise versa. One of my coworkers got a visit from CPS because he took his kid to latch key one day and he had sandals on and a small scrap on his foot...just wow.

So I don't think it's any wonder that some parents are probably a little uncomfortable or apprehensive about disciplining their kids in public, probably less hassle to ignore for some.

This. If you don't assert your authority, your kids will never learn to respect you. They act out because they view themselves as the authority figure over you. Ignoring them or giving in is just wimpy parenting.

Of course sometimes kids do this because they're tired. My mom, who's retired, says she sees these stay-at-home moms picking their kids up from school then taking them out shopping. Kid's bawling and shouting "I wanna go home" but they keep dragging them around because they absolutely need to go to Walmart right now and damn everything else.

Remember some liberal douchey hippie lady starting a scene when my dad was holding me by the ear with one hand and slapping me up with the other, in public. I had done something to piss him off so it was deserved. My dad has these eyebrows that come together in a mean threatening unibrow type of scowl when he is pissed and he stopped disciplining me and turned around to face the intruding busybody; gave her the unrestrained "angry face". Told her to stfu and mind her own business or else he would spank her like her parents never did. If she had a tail it would have been in between her legs as her mouth dropped open and she walked away all offended. Love ya dad!

I had that situation happen to me in a toy store. The little one was screaming non stop at the top of his lungs for ten minutes straight. I stepped around the corner and screamed as loud as I could in the child's face. He looked at me and then laughed. The mother complained to management that I had 'attacked' her son.

I see how you came up with your user name! smackababy

My son tried this screaming tactic a few times and we went to the car for some @sswhipping time. He learned pretty quickly how to zip it up.
