I mean, yea. I'd rather either post to get information, or to express my opinion. Many threads are just enjoyable to read, and don't require feed back.

That sums it up. And some of you guys/gals are real snappish with some of the things you say and I can't really see myself aruging over the internet over spelling, grammer or the dreaded REPOST! so I don't really say anything

Well, I didn't hit "Senior" until this year. I have always enjoyed these forums, since the old one. I have "lurked" through almost all of the sections. Truth is, I intially signed up because I wanted to see all the options the new forum had as far as the user settings went. Basically I was selfish and wanted to control my surrounding when I lurked. Stupid reason, maybe, but it was justified to me. Also with being in the military, I was not always home to get involved in topics, but when I got back, I would start reading through what I missed.

When I became an instructor and found myself with a stable job, no more going away or 12 hour shifts through the weekend, I decided to get more involved in discussions. I still lurk more than I post, but to me that is what these forums are about. There are plenty of members who take up the slack!

Hope this gives you a little insight into the dark mind of a lurker

Agreed. I will add something to the comments about Rain. If I remember correctly there was a similar thread a year or so ago asking people with the lowest post counts to make an appearance. I was at around ~30 or so at the time. Out of the blue Rain posts and blows everyone out of the water with his post count of 1. It's an anandtech classic.

Then I promptly forgot about it since living the college life was more important than posting on AT. But now after graduating with no job in sight . I have a ton of free time on my hands.

I think the reverse question could be asked, why do many of you folks feel that you have to post anything on every thread out there? I get the feeling that some people think it is abnormal to be a member for a while yet not post often, then why is it considered normal to spend the majority of your time posting on some internet forum?

Somebody asked, don't feel like finding the actual quote, do people who lurk and not post act like that in real life; here is a question then: those that post on every topic even if completely irrelevent/useless, do you do that in real life? Have the urge to put your two cents into every conversation?

I don't think it's per se "normal" to spend a lot of time posting, but it is normal for these folks. I think it's more normal to spend time and post than to spend time and not post, so I was curious about you unique peoples.

Spending time to post is simple writing, correct? I would have assumed that the majority of people are readers and not writers. Else, everybody would have their publications sold in Barnes and Noble. Therefore I would consider it more 'normal' (silly symantics) for people to read information/thoughts then to constantly be writing it.

That, and to give a more practical and realistic explanation, due to my work schedule and real life activities I don't get to surf the net but late at night, and because of that simply do not have enough time to 'waste' replying to threads where the same thing has been said many times.

I would assume many people who have jobs that are not conducive to reading and replying to messageboards as well as have active lifestyles probably do not post too often on any messageboard.
