For the Modders Out There...UV Lighting Questions...

I'm just curious, but after spending lots of hours trying to make my wiring perfect (& I came nowhere close to it yet), what if a company like Logisys came out with a Wireless UV Lighting System?

What if their UV lighting kits ran on AAA batteries or worked off a small USB module? After looking at how much time I spent trying to make my acrylic case look as close to perfect as possible, I'd buy them up in a hurry.

I'm curious as to how well these kits would sell. If there's enough demand, I think they'd sell rather well.

I personally think the AAA battery solution would be better. They'd have to make it so the batteries would last at least 6 - 12 months, but I doubt that would be a problem.

Just some food for thought. Here are the specific products I'm using that I'd like to see go Wireless.

Compared to the normal wired ones? No. I don't mind the wired ones, as the cables you can make UV reactive, or just hide them if you don't want to mess with it...

my son and I have been busy building a new sytem and it also has plenty of lights. Wireless might be nice and I'll bet theres something out there that could be adapted. But battery operated I dont wants no part of. I'm not an EE, but I dont think you could get batteries to hold up to the power requirements for the inverters used on the UV and CCFL lights. Mind you your input is only 12 volts and maybe a couple watts, but on the outside of the inverter you are talking I believe in the 600 volt range. You might get the light to power up for a few seconds with a nine volt or two.
As for the wiring, well thats the fun part, even for this ole fart it's pretty easy. We added a total of 4 pairs fo lights to this machine. 2 pairs of UV's, 1pair of 12" Metor lights and 1 pair of sound activated 12" CCFL to the bottom side of case. (guess my son is tring to tan himeself with this rig) To control all these we just used one of the empty 3.5 bays and front cover and the belly pan from an old floppy drive to make a wiring bay with switches on the front.

Batteries wouldn't be very useful for the cold cathode items, but LEDs on the otherhand would be a different matter. In fact, I'm in the process of making a picture frame out of plexiglass sheets, that is lit with LEDs using 2 9-volt batteries. I'll let you know how it works out...

I only mentioned batteries as part of my brainstorming. It definitely isn't the absolute, but I really like the Wireless idea. Now to get a company to adopt it & then manufacture it, that's a different story.

I was thinking that a USB Wirelss Module of some sort might be able to communicate with the wiring somehow. I'm definitely not an Eng., but I was thinking along the lines of a wireless mouse or other wireless device. Why couldn't that same concept follow these UV lights, fans, LED's, etc.?

Anyway, I think the product(s) would sell very well if a company produced them.

"If you build it, they will come."
