Another plug for the free one year for being a student. I didn't really need to sign up but thought I might as well, and so far it's been a nice (but unnecessary) luxury. I've already ordered about seven items and two day shipping is just nice to have. The last thing I bought was a set of $5 taillights which were sent by next day air for whatever reason, even though I always choose two-day (shipping was probably more than the bulbs!).

Once it's up, I probably won't miss it and won't pay for it since I'm not a huge shopper and not an impulse buyer, and I can definitely wait a few days if I ever need something.

I joined after a year free when I wanted to buy a Silverstone TJ07 case.

Not only was Amazon cheaper than anywhere else that was somewhat reputable, they overnighted it to me for that paltry $3.99. Newegg wanted over $79 for overnight shipment, $26 for 3-day shipping.

Did I mention that the case was overnighted and delivered on a Saturday?

what are you ordering that justifies the $80/year fee?

I was just looking through Amazon to buy some kitchen appliances and while it would be nice to get instant gratification in two days as opposed to waiting for the super saver, I couldn't think of things that I would have to order on a regular basis to make the membership worthwhile. I guess it may be worth it for their instant videos that are thrown in but dammit, I already have Netflix.

i buy almost everything on amazon, especially if its prime, unless i need it asap. between the time and money i save riding around and going to stores to shop, i think its worth it. the only thing i bother to buy now is minor household stuff, if i forget to get it on amazon, some clothing, and some food. i can get some specialty food online easier than i can hunt it down here, or cheaper.

It's pretty convenient. When I suddenly think of something that I need to buy I'll just go order it from Amazon and knowing I'll get it in 2 days without shipping charge, with decent price and no sales tax. Even casual items like batteries and condoms I just order them saving me a trip to a local store.

My only concern is that I'm spending more on Amazon and less on local stores so it's probably bad for local economy.

I'm in my first year. I thought I would give it a try and decide if it was worth renewing.
FWIW, I decided Tuesday night that I wanted to build some LP/CD storage and a new TV stand this weekend; I ordered a new router bit and a clamp/guide bar that will be here tomorrow...

According to Obama and Bush its a good thing even on a national scale.

I can go into a retail store, pull out my iPhone, scan the barcode with the Amazon app. If the price on Amazon is better, I can hit the one-click order button and have the item delivered in 2 days (or 1 day for $3.99 more).

I use it all the time. I just bought replacement toothbrush heads for my electric toothbrush. $22 on Amazon vs $29 in the store. Saved $7 bucks.

Two-day shipping FTW. Most of the time (>75% I'd say) the item arrives the next day if it ships from somewhere on the east coast.

I agree. I have it only because my wife has an edu email address. It's nice but I wouldn't pay $80/yr for it, I don't buy enough stuff. Won't be renewing once the free trial year is up in March, although I guess I'll register my own edu email address for another free year.

Remember, though, most of the people here are ATOT millionaires.

A .edu address gets you Amazon Prime for free? Huh?

Free for the first year (but you don't get the video service) and then half price four 4 years after that (and you do get the video service).

I love Amazon prime. I order 3-5 things a week. If it's not perishable groceries, I buy it on Amazon. To include coffee, cereal, toothpaste, condoms, glassware, whatever.

There aren't any stores except for Walmart here, and even if I lived in a city Amazon would be cheaper (and faster.)

Lots and lots of stuff. If I think of something I need I just order it. No waiting to get $25 worth or having to go to the store. Just order it and it's on my step in two days. I probably save more than $80 a year in gas from trips to the store, not to mention time. It's more than worth it.

You could probably break even just on buying one or two reasonably-big items per year. I know that I definitely saved more than $80 by ordering stuff on Amazon.

I just signed up for it. They say it's only free for 6 months now.

Blu Rays/DVDs
Books
Video Games
Lots of other random stuff, some just comes up that I need/want something and gifts.

I need to get it again soon. Mine ran out, I split it with some people to make it even cheaper. Though if I can't find another group I'll end up getting up anyways.

thats my favorite thing about amazon: it brings us the future, and does it quite well. as much as i hate paper im still not on board the e-book thing, but that has a lot to do with the publishers, and less to do with amazon, so hopefully it gets better.

i mean i get anything there, fast, and order much of it while shopping elsewhere. options galore for many items. love it. good customer service and a great seller account system which is awesome for selling my text books. cant recall the last time i was unhappy with amazon

I buy things from amazon probably 3-4 times/month, and frequently not in enough quantities to qualify for the "super saver" shipping that takes 2 weeks anyways.

Uggg... this year I would have probably spent $400+ on shipping had it not been for Prime. I love Amazon.

Video/photo equipment for a growing business.
