For those of you that have Amazon Prime...

So if I order Prime item from Amazon on Sunday and it arrives on Wednesday, is that really 2 day shipping? Or how about Monday and it arrives on Thursday? According to Amazon, that's 2 day shipping. To me, it's 3 days.

The items in question is from Amazon as the seller and Prime eligible. I don't see why you think I'm BSing.

Have had Amazon Prime for several years now. I use Amazon to buy things from HDMI cables to Condoms. It especially comes in handy around Christmas time. I also have a Ruku so I can steam Amazon Prime shows to the my TV when I want. I would pay for Amazon prime if it was just free shipping. However the streaming is just icing on the cake.

Amazon Prime has saved me from buying craps that I don't need in order to get $25 Free Super Saver Shipping which can also take a week or two to arrive.

I know when I had free Prime, they used cheaper shipping couple of times. 2 day free shipping is deceptive. Many times when I ordered an item Monday, the item wasn't delivered til Thursday. That's more like 3 days shipping in my book and inline with ground shipping time.

the day of order doesnt count as they cant guarentee pickup till the next day

I live a few hours from indy where they have a huge warehouse, I get many order the next day, its *very* worth it to me.

I already said I placed another order the following day on Monday and that order arrived on Thursday.

And I already said MOST orders have a cutoff time of 4pm Pacific.

Seriously, almost everyone is going to have a different experience because of many factors. For me, Prime is 100% awesome. I live 200 miles east of Seattle.

I dont see the problem there. Order shipped monday delivery estimate wednesday. thats 2 days.

Can you cite your 10% margin assertion for Costco products? Also, Costco has the advantage for old school dweebs that they can hold the 5 gallon bucket of mayo before they pay for it.... Seriously, Costco has the advantage of being able to touch and feel the merch before buying. Plus, a really nice return policy. Not saying Amazon's is bad, but if you open something bought from amazon, you're paying return shipping unless it's broken.

Costco gross margin is around 12% now. Costco caps their margin on items at 14% for name brand and 15% for their Kirkland private label. Just google and read their 10-k.

In comparison, Walmart margin is around 21%, Kroger 26%, Safeway 29%. Costco makes most of their profit from membership which is close to 100% margin.

This is an old research on Costco but you can get good idea on Costco business model from reading this.

Prime is Amazon version of Costco paid membership. Both are used to create loyalty and drive sales.

I used to share it with 4 additional people and each person paid $16. ($16 x 5 is $80)

Not only that, Amazon will almost always refund you the $3.99 you pay for 1-day if it arrives late.

I've had a could of times where a package arrived later than the 2-day window, and I had an email from amazon automatically apologizing for it, even though it wasn't their fault.

Yes, it was due either weather or mechanical delay of the UPS plane causing it to miss a connecting flight to my city.

The plane left a few hours hours late from Arizona to Ontario, California, and missed the flight from Ontario, CA to Northern California. All of those packages on that plane became delayed. I know it wasn't Amazons fault.

Amazon tells you if they can ship your package that day or not. It is very clear on each item page when the deadline to order to be shipped that day is. Some items it is in the morning, others it is in the afternoon. They always ship it out that day if they say they can.

If the deadline is 11am and you order at 12pm, then no it will not be shipped that day.

March 20th was a sunday.

So if it actually ships on Monday, then receiving it on Tuesday would be 1 day, and receiving it on Wed would be 2 days.

Are you confusing order date with ship date?

Maybe the order you placed on Monday didn't get processed/shipped out till Tuesday. So the time from the actual ship date to delivery date is what you should count as "shipping time".

If it shipped out Tuesday, then if you get it on Wed. that's 1 day shipping, and if you get it on Thursday, that's 2 day shipping.

What annoying is when I order on friday and want it for saturday, if you do regular one day it doesn't come until monday. You have to pay for special saturday delivery. That cost 5.99 for prime customers. But 5.99 for saturday delivery is still a good deal, just $2 more than next day.

Exactly. He prob doesn't realize the difference between fulfilled by seller and fulfilled by amazon.

Actually, I think Naustica doesn't realize the difference between order date and ship date. A lot of people think that way though. They think that the moment they place an order, the item is on the truck being sent to them. Doesn't work that way.
