Ok, so the lesson learned here is I have to whore the hell out of this. I think I'll order a bunch of random small things like a sponge, a box of condoms, and some ping pong balls.

I've actually bought sponges, condoms and ping pong balls from amazon. For household type goods I try to order it all at once so I'm not wasting a bunch of packing\fuel\UPS effort. There's no point in abusing it for the sake of abusing it.

I have condoms on Subscribe & Save. What annoys me is that they WILL NOT combine shipments for subscribe & save. what I want is one delivery per month of everything I'm supposed to get that month. Even if I order everything on the same day it comes in different packages.

I definitely try to combine shipments as much as possible. If I don't need something right away I'll put it on my wishlist and when I DO need something I'll add in the stuff from my wishlist. There's really no gas wasted when I have stuff delivered by UPS, because the UPS guy is in my neighborhood every day regardless. It's a lot of cardboard though. I try to re-use it, but I only have so much to ship.

I love Amazon Prime, I also like the little stuff that comes with it like the storage and movies. I use it for about everything I buy. It's cheaper and I don't have to deal with the shithole that is Wal-Mart.

It's definitely handy, if you use it fairly often it can probably pay for itself pretty quickly. If you need a cable or some other small thing like that, for example, you can usually overnight it for $3.99 and still spend less than if you had to drive over to the store to get it, and you don't really have to wait much longer either.

And stuff like the free Prime streaming movies is a nice value-add, although the selection isn't great, I don't think I'd really consider it an alternative to Netflix.

I don't know if I shop at Amazon enough to justify the $80/year, but I got 1 year free with the Amazon Student thing and renewed at the $40/year price. And as others have mentioned if you split the regular $80/year plan with some "family members" it's pretty affordable, so that's always an option if you don't think you can justify the regular price.

$40 for me since im a college student - absolutely makes a world of a difference for $3.99 one day shipping and free release day/2 day shipping on items.

The $4 overnight kicks major ass. It will pay for itelf on 4 items that you NEED to have NOW. Like a snow shovel for Snowmageddon that I got last minute when all my local hardware stores were sold out.

i live in Hobbs, NM. we have no malls to shop at and no places to really shop at for things, the closest place is 1.5 hours away

So we buy mostly everything we want from Amazon.

Free 2-day shipping. Yes, please

Same situation. I live 250 miles from any metro area with a decent amount of shopping. We buy everything from amazon, even some grocery items. The only things we cant get, meat, eggs, bread, Id buy from them if I could.

I order everything I can from Amazon, for two reasons:

1) I have Prime
2) I have an Amazon Rewards card

You can even order things like cereal, deodorant, etc. and have them delivered on a subscription. My wife and I probably order at least twice a month from Amazon and I ordered most of my Christmas gifts from them last year.

^^ What he said. Saves me the trouble of getting out. I buy everything I can through them. Laundry detergent. Dryer sheets, toilet paper. I place multiple orders a week. In my case it more than covers what I'd save in shipping, and where I'm located, get probably 90% of my stuff the next day.

Part of the reason I got it was for the opposite reason. I often found myself ordering random shit just to get to $25 and free shipping. I have like 50 cabinet handles I will never use. I bought them because they were one of the cheapest things on amazon at the time and I always bought one or two it seemed to make my order above $25. Now I can order anything I want and not have to worry about finding random shit to bring my total above $25.

My wife got it back when it was cheaper (around $30/yr?) and we use it all the time now. It paid for itself when we ordered our Weber grill. Now we enjoy the video streaming and only order items that ship free for 2nd day.

I get Prime for free (the shipping part, not the videos) since I'm a student. Didnt read through the thread, but anyone with a .edu account can get it free.

It's really nice to be able to buy small electronic parts/accessories that are under 25 and still get free shipping.

All you have to do is sign up for Amazon Mom's and tell them you're expecting a child and you get Prime for free. I've had it for quite awhile now.

Nice, I'm in Artesia.

It's a 3 hour trip to anywhere from here. Need anything Walmart or Home Depot doesn't have? Forget it, Amazon here I come.

My wife has a .edu email addy, so we signed up for the free year last year. It ran out at the end of July, I just signed back up for the $40 discount. I'm an instant gratification kind of guy, so I love it.

The last thing I bought was a set of $5 taillights which were sent by next day air for whatever reason, even though I always choose two-day (shipping was probably more than the bulbs!).

they probably weren't able to get it on the truck in time to get it there in 2 days with 2-day shipping, so they automatically upgraded it to next-day air.

i had a free year of prime as a student last year, and now i'm getting it for free via my parents.

the prices on cereal just cannot be beat (<$2 a box). not having to factor shipping into any of your purchasing decisions is also great. and amazon customer service is top notch, so all the more reason to shop there.

What annoys me though is when I upgrade to next day and it doesn't come next day they do not automatically compensate me. I just wanted a refund of the 3.99 I paid to upgrade to next day. It is very hard to get a complaint file too.

If you read the fine print Next Day for 3.99 or 2 days for free is NOT gauranteed with Prime. It is only gauranteed if you pay full price for these shipping.

I started prime when I needed a quality rice cooker and hotpot ASAP for a weekend of cooking. Seeing as how neither is a common item around here, I found some Zojirushi's on Amazon, but the overnight shipping would have been $100. Prime: $7. There have been plenty of times where the cheap overnight shipping has come in handy, or I'm ordering random items that are less than free shipping. Plus, I can sometimes get $7 Sunday delivery.

Amazon also either opened up a new distro center "nearby" or optimized their distribution, so about 50% of the orders I place now are upgraded to overnight shipping or Saturday/Sunday delivery for free.

The one time they failed to get me my product on time and I had to go to the local store to buy it (same price, I just didn't get the pack-in bonus from Amazon), they paid for return shipping of the item and refunded me the entire price and shipping without a restock fee. All it took was filing a help ticket. There was even a dropdown option for not making the shipping time.

To be honest the only reason i have amazon prime right now is my .EDU email address means i can get it (the paid version) for $39 the only reason i upgraded from the "free" version was because of the instant video. It is like netflix but for $3.25 a month instead of $8. And i use it alot! (mostly because they have every episode of star trek)

there is also this which should be mentioned more. other then LL Bean Amazon has IMO the best return policy out there.
