For those of you whining about WinXP, why don't you stick with Win2k and leave us alone!!!

I believe XP is bloated (really, how much does an OS really need to do?) but some of that bloat is useful. Performance appears to be less than Win 2K. There's a reason Gateway, Dell, etc. are praising XP: it requires more powerful hardware. I don't believe MS is intentially shoveling out slop, it's just the natural evolution of software.

My personal experience with XP has been exceptional. I like the added digital camera support and a few other pieces of the &quot;bloatware&quot;
I have been running the bare mimimum for so long on my machines that I am bored with the look and feel so i have left all the features turned on for now just for the hell of it. As far as the 33% performance hit i have not experienced it and and if I need to run a benchmark just to verify it then well. Actually i was able to clock one of my tbirds back 1400 that would not run stable past 1300 on 98se and another at 1450

And as far as the colors being gay and such comments I am not going to bother with.

I signed up for the WinXP preview program, installed winxp yesterday and am very satisfied. I had previously installed two beta warez copies, which I did not like. RC1 is much quicker than the older betas. I turned off many of winxp's features and haev it using about 65-80 megs of ram at anytime unless I am running a few things. My only gripe is, there is lag when browsing through the program menu and that it doesnt support my scsi card (though win2k did).

So far XP has being great for me. After install it, was burning data cd's and scanning in some papers. All this without installing burning software or installing any drivers. Anybody who tells me that's not good, I think their some wrong with them. The only thing I change was the video drivers with the 12.41 from Nvidia. I also like the GUI, bigger icon's and more detailed. For me I haven't felt any loss in performance in regular use. In games I get more fps in Quake3 and UT.
