actually, there are a lot of californians on here, but that doesn't count because 85k cali money is like 30k everywhere else.

Why would you assume that? Not everyone here is very young. $85K isn't a ton of money.

because 90% of the stuff posted on here is BS, why would i expect any less now? 85k is quite a bit of money outside of cali or nyc. 5 years ago i'd probably feel differently, but these forums aren't filled with the quality of people they once were.

altho i've been convinced it might be closer to less than 25 people instead of 10.

I bet at least 10% of the members of this board make over $85K, though as you said many of those are probably in CA or NYC. I make more than that and live in the Midwest, but I don't feel I make a lot of money. I guess it's all down to perceptions, though.

I don't think I'm really qualified to post, but the SO and I make almost that if you add ours together.

I drive a 2001 Audi A4 Avant.
She drives a 2006 Mazda 6 (was 2000 Mazda Protege before it got totaled).

Yeah, but at the same time, you have some people who think $85K is borderline poverty, which it really isn't.

I bet there's a lot more than 25... considering a lot of people are in the tech field. Not everyone here is in highschool.

I drive a '97 Honda CR-V with 140k miles on it. First car I purchased out of college. Will continue to drive it until it dies.

When the CR-V dies, I will most likely buy a hybrid...have no desire to purchase a status symbol car...can think of infinitely better ways to spend my money beyond trying to impress other people.

Cars are a very poor investment...

Why does everyone say buying a car is a poor investment? Its not an investment at all! Purchasing any depreciating asset is not an investment, an investment implies the expectation of profit.

true. its like a computer. the minute you turn it on or run the engine, its losing value
but the problem is, get one that you can afford. utterly pointless if you make 60k and drive a BMW.

bah, some people can get a bmw makign only 65k and it is as good as another making only 85k, both living in LA. Why? the one making 65k lives with parents still!

no speaking for myself, i moved out as soon as I had the opportunity.

You posted the same cars twice in this thread. What the hell does a single person need 3 cars for (especially where two of them are midsize sedans)? It's not like any of them are collectable.

3 more years 'till I graduate, get a salary, and get a nice car.

In the meantime I enjoy my '84 Volvo 240. It's a beast.
