Combined income my wife and I make over $100k annually. She drives a 2006 Lexus IS250 and I drive a 2003 Nissan Maxima and I commute to work once or twice a week by bicycle.

I think the first page of replies MIGHT have been people that actually make over $85k/year, and then it sort of fell apart after that...

Why not? I have better things to spend money on then a car.

uhm, a 98 camaro, she just died though... so either fix for around 300 bucks (guessing that is the alternator) and run it for a little longer or i go out and buy a new car.

If i wait... i will be getting a gtr when they come out and if I decide to get a new car... it will be a either a 06 civic si or a 06 vette. I know tons of difference... its just that I also want to get a house and not live in an apartment for much longer... a si will help me acheive that... a vette it would be much harder especially in the dc area,

edit... single too, living in the dc area, and rent is about 1600 a month,

Nice car. I used to drive the less sporty 92 fleetwood. It was pimp!

Agreed. Some of us live in high cost of living areas, and others do not.

I see no reason to make the single worst investment a person can make: Buy a new car... especially every 3-5 years.

Well what about buy a 3yr old car with low mileage and save 40-45% of fnew?

I drive a £600 car that I have put 11k miles (has 94k now) and runs well. 5speed manual 1.4l engine and I rev the b!tch out of it everytime I go to work lol.

A car is definately not an investment of any sorts (nearly all, very few appreciate). Most people buy them to thrash about and have fun. If you spend quite a lot of hrs in a car then I can see spending more on a car.

Yep, I make slightly more than that in Texas which does real well here. I would probably need damn near twice that to maintain my lifestyle in NY or Cali. Reasonable property values/school taxes and no state tax FTW

It is double the average income in the United States, so I'd say it's a healthy chunk of change.

Again, a car is a terrible investment. I didn't get to where I am today by wasting my money, nor will I get to where I want to be tomorrow by wasting my money.

You can't even afford a car in NYC on $85k/yr.

Technically couldn't you say a guy that drops $50k in to a car wasted his money by getting to where he is?
