Very few majors pay out as well as that. What if we aren't interested in medicine?

What field of medicine are you in? Just curious, as I'm currently a pre-med student.

ER/IM - Dont do it, specialize, the hours suck, 12 hour shifts screw your whole day, and you lose a day for every night shift. If you do end up with Internal Med or general surgery do a fellowship and speciallize. I know the contry needs more generalists but the Medicare reimbursement system doesn't work out right to support going into IM/FP. And most ER's are mega-groups that suck out all the money to corporate, plus as an ER physician your a second-class doc as far as hospital administration is concerned.

Duh work sucks thats why they have to pay you to come in..but at least yours lets you make enough to save enough so you can invest in passive income sources and call it quits much eariler. I've never made 200K and will stop working Aug 8 @ 35.

85k when you are single is pretty damn good.
85k with a wife and kids, especially if the wife don't work, is not a lot of money to play with.

My statement was only to advise saahmed, no one ever took the time to inform me of the practical side of medicine, so I try to let those interested have a little insight so that they can make good choices for their future. God knows their school and the residency system is going to try to pressure them into general medical fields.

C'mon

Again, a car is a terrible investment. I didn't get to where I am today by wasting my money, nor will I get to where I want to be tomorrow by wasting my money.

Some people like cars. It is only wasting money if you don't get enjoyment out of it. Isn't that a big point of money anyway, so that you can have fun? (the other big part being security).

I don't blame him dude. My dad made about $110k/year and I used to call him cheap, but now that I graduated and have a decent income I really don't feel like wasting too much.

I'm personally torn between getting a 350z, WRX, or keeping my old '99 Civic (which is in decent condition, no mechanical problems whatsoever). Only thing is it doesn't "show" my wealth, so to speak.
