For those of you who were on Atkins, why did you stop?

Is it because you don't like to eat bacon and eggs for breakfast? You don't like to eat steak for dinner?

I myself enjoy bacon and eggs for breakfast. I could even eat it for lunch and dinner if I had to or it was there for me.

Steak, don't even ask me. I'd eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner as well.

I do believe my over weight problem is stemming from carbs. I eat LOTS of rice. If I still had my digi cam I'd take a pic of how much rich I usually eat in a night. Top that with at least two to three sodas (Coke, Pepsi) a day and you have myself.

Anyhow, I think I can hang with this Atkins diet.

Why did you stop the diet?

Edit: Just to let you guys know I just updated another post on the same subject and bumped it up. I don't want to waste precious bandwidth.

Not significant. Do what tastes best.

If anyone wants to lose weight, just burn more calories than you eat.
If you also want to be healthy, eat a balanced diet.
It's not rocket science, but BS sells.

Just spray some stinkin' Pam or whatever in the pan if it's non-stick.

Use vegetable, or go get some safflower oil (only buy if it comes in the larger bottles like peanut oil and veg. oil - not worth it if it's only available through a premium brand). If you can find safflower oil for a reasonable price it's better for you and your food will taste better too.

That is percent of daily value, not the fat percentage of the actual product. Oils are 100% fat.

I quit cause eating out was hard to do.. and I eat out quite frequently. Not to mention I started working at Jamba Juice where each smoothie has a minimum of 80 carbs. I missed rice too.. it was hard going those 2 months without rice after eating rice everyday of my life beforehand. Still, I lost about 40lbs [gained maybe 15 back], 4 inches on the waist [still -4 inches] during those two months.. I might do it again starting after New Years [I can't give up stuffing over Turkey Day ].

My dad has lost like 30 pounds on Atkins. Best diet he's ever been on b/c he gets to eat real food, and once you are off carbs, it's no big deal. He can snack on cheese, eat greasy chopped meat, and bacon every damn day. Cholesterol went down, blood pressure fine, all systems go

When you really think about it, anything extreme has it's consequences. Life is about balance. Depriving oneself of certain foods may have long-term effects that may have not been discovered yet.

Stick with the food pyramid and watch the calorie intake. It is the harder but healthier way to go. Atkins is the easier route.

FYI the food pyramid is not based on science but political considerations. There has been an ongoing debate on the food pyramid for about 10 years and nutritionalists haven been wanting to change it.

Just because you "deprive" something doesn't mean it will hurt you.... nor if something is considered 'easier' should it not be persued. Some people find atkins harder b/c they have a carb addiction or really enjoy eating carbs.

Cutting back sugar intake is healthy, not endangering your body. Atkins doesn't cut you to zero - it reduces them for a short amount of time so the body burns off its own fat stores. After the induction period, you can eat an increased level of carbs.

Your logic is flawed.

I would put money on the fact that you've never tried Atkins for a significant amount of time.

I've been doing it since May, I've lost 41lbs, and I feel great. I had a physical last month, and my blood test results came out significantly improved.

Btw, the food pyramid is a crock! If you are worried about long term effects, ask yourself why diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases in America since the government released the "food pyramid." Notice that I didn't say a team of doctors or nutritionalists released it, because they didn't. This was the government's idea.

But to answer the original question... I haven't stopped, and I probably never will. I am incredibly happy with the lost weight, and with the energy a low carb plan brings. I have little doubt that I'll always watch my carbs.

I tried to simply ramp up my protein intake. I wanted to gradually go into induction. I simply could not handle eating that much protein. It's just not good.

I don't eat eggs, non-breat meat chicken, or most pork. Meat is far more expensive than bread and it's not nearly as good in most cases. I can't afford steak everyday, and I just pretty much won't eat greasy food.

I don't each much dairy either. It makes me feel bad when I eat it. I feel gunked up.

So there you have it.

I dont know, i dont think i could trust a weight loss plan that doesnt involve a balanced diet and good regular exercise. I dont doubt that you will lose weight, but at what cost? Even if you lose weight your cardio vascular system hasnt been challenged and is still in the same shape (if your not planning on being 100% physically fit you probably wont care) as it was when the diet was started. Also, to satisfy my own curiosities, how long will it take to gain back what has been lost when the diet is stopped? I don't mean to criticize people who choose this, but i would research the before, during and after effects.
