to go put ur car in gear after you park? i just pull the e-brake up and leave it in neutral. i am asking becuz i have heard that places will not install remote start in man trans cars becuz some ppl park in gear, and if they use remote start... something either in front or behind the car is gonna get smashed.

I always leave it in neutral although you should keep it in gear.

-edit- if I'm on a steep incline I'll put it into first to help prevent car from taking a trip without the driver.

I always put it in gear when parking, it's better to have it in a gear then not in a gear in case the parking brake fails. On a uphill facing up, always put it in the first gear and park there. On a downhill facing down, always put it in reverse and park there... On a level ground, typically I park in 1st gear as well... It's a good practice and wtf do u need a remote starter for? U get in and start the friggin engine and drive it around... The car isnt a RC so get used to it...

leave it in 1st and pull the e-brake (unless i'm on very very very flat ground and then maybe i'll just leave it in first).

just a lazy bastard. it would be nice to start the car from inside the house, esp on cold days. just a nice little luxury to have i guess.

Lets face it. If you are using a remote starter you won't leave it in gear.

If you do and you remote start it, you deserve all the ownage that will ensue.

I generally leave it in neutral when I park, unless I'm on a fairly pronounced hill. It's just force of habit.

well i have no prob, becuz i leave it in neutral. however, one time i let my bro-in-law borrow the car and he parked it in gear. i was unaware of this and when i started the car, he jumped forward and stalled. i was like "WTF!" :|

but anyway, i guess if i really wanted to have remote start installed, i would need to find a connection and never give anyone else the remote

I always leave mine in gear. There are plenty of shops that will install a remote starter. You just have to remember to leave it in neutral.

Of course, you're supposed to step on the clutch when you start the car to prevent this possiblity no matter what gear it was left in.

since park in neutral, i step on the clutch, start the car, let go of the clutch. i never have a problem with this routine, until that one time. i guess i should make a habit of checking the shiftknob (or wiggle it around) before starting the car. meh.

I just put it in neutral unless I'm on an incline, then I put it in second and turn the wheels so my car will hit the curb if it rolls.

I've heard second is better than first because if you get hit it could damage the teeth on the gear, and first is more important than second. But I really don't know enough about cars to know if that's true.

1st or reverse provides more resistance.

Same reason if you're trying to cluctch start a car because of dead battery you get it going with tranny in 2-3 gear and release the clutch.

If you get hit and it damages a gear, the other guy's insurance will pay for it. If your improperly parked car rolls into a crowded schoolyard and make the national headlines, your insurance will cancel you.
