Woohoo! Just got both the camera and printer, it was as easy as this;

Me: "Hi, I bought a Dimension 2400 a few weeks ago. I just got a new catalog, and I see a promotion for a free camera and printer. Do I qualify for these?"

Dell CSR:"Yes. Just a moment, I will get you a case number and order numbers."

Props all around guys, for making the $200 P4 Dimension 2400 deal even sweeter!

warning: check you orders - the lady tried to give me a crappy 79 dollar camera and hung up before I realized it. Now I'm on the phone with them again to try to get the CX6230 model.

What was your part number on your order? At first the lady ordered me a "A0060603" which was for the crappy 1.3 piece of crap camera. When I called them back, I had the guy cancel that order, told him I wanted the "Kodak EasyShare" camera, and he gave me part number "A0217618" which, when I search for on Dell.com, doesn't turn up anything. However the EasyShare CX6230's part number is "A0144065". So I got something different. He said it was a "promotional part number" so maybe by some miracle he actually ordered me the printer+camera combo? I can dream, can't I?

Anyway, so what was the part# (which I guess is the same as a sku#?) on anybody else's order?

hey chick - you have to keep calling and keep calling. i must've spent 2 or 2 1/2 hours tonight, calling and talking to several different people. eventually, one of them will make you an offer!

i posted this above, but the first guy i called said "dude, keep trying. good luck"

If I get this, I'm going to feel really guilty. This is almost like stealing :-\

if you feel you are stealing from dell, consider this: the OEM manufactorers of the motherboards and cases are making them in mainland china in essentially slave-like conditions. the CPUs are intels only which means they are fabbed in juarez mexico, israel, ireland or where cheap labor can be had. the monitors are mostly made in korea where workers are currently striking so they can make more than $1 a hour. the computers are assembled in taiwan by mostly girls under the age of 18 living in dormatories of a factory. the computers are serviced by indian (from india) phone operators--turns out it is cheaper to employ brain-dead indians and pay international phone charges (IP telephony, gotta love it) instead of brain-dead americans in a call center. hell, even their collection agents are indians! basically the only americans involved in the whole transaction are the actors who play the phone operators on their "apple-pie" television ads. other than that bull-crap, it is all southeast asian slave labor. so don't worry, dell has been stealing from you and the american workforce for years already.

heheh, nice rationalization. How many gigs of MP3's and movies do you have?

yeah, it's a rationalization. although i recently heard that dell does 85% of its business with corporate and government customers. you don't see "Phoenix Police Department" or "Myrill Lynch HR, West Coast Division" scanning these boards for hot deals, do you? no, they pay 600 bucks for computers like this, and buy 100 at a time. i don't really think this is too painfull for Mr. Dell.

Same here. Mine shipped on the 29th, expected delivery this Thursday.

So, I got a Northwood core P4 2.2, 648mb pc 2700, 40g 7.2k hdd, CDRW and Kodak 2.0mp CX6230 camera for $270. Also, I was notified that my Dell rebates were processed and should mail soon, only a couple weeks after mail-in. Nice.

Agreed. They just got me a new computer at work. It was a Dell. It cost $5000. They didn't bat an eye. It is top of the line but I wouldn't have paid more than $1500 for it. That's how Dell makes their money. Not off of the puny number of orders from hot deal finders.
