For those who missed the 12x10x32 CD-R/RW at Compusa, they have the zip 12x4x32 (with BurnProof) for $129.99 (may be for $99)

Mathwiz -- I ran WinFlash, pointed it at the .bin image, and presto, worked like a champ. I'm using Win2K Server, no issues so far (other than DirectCD, which is as hosed as it was before the flash).

Thanks JeffChrisope

FWIW regarding the $30 rebate guys, The store manager at CompUSA
told me there would be NO PROBLEM getting the rebate. However,
my experiences in life on situations like this tells me, talk is cheap.
I have a copy of my receipt, a hunk of cardboard box bottom, and a
filled out rebate form in a envelope on my desk and cant at this point
seal it up and mail it because of the three boxes that are there for
me to check one. NONE OF THEM APPLY.
This does not look promising. Now my thought is.....Is it better to send it in fast and hope they say what the heck, do it. OR
Send it in later when they have put out all this money and are trying
to reject all but the most perfectly legitamite filled out packages.
Then again, they may come out with a revised rebate form.

I just bought this drive yesterday and it works great. About the rebate issue...the employee at the CS counter said the rebate was misprinted but would be honored. However, in case it isn't for some reason, she said that I could bring the ad and receipt back to the store and they would give me the $30 there. Now if I can only hold onto the paperwork for 3 months and still find it if I need it! In case it helps anyone, the salesman suggested that the manager might be willing to give me the $30 on the spot but that didn't happen. Also, when I called beforehand regarding availability, I was transferred to someone at Comp's national call center and they offered to ship the drive to me.

Also, in response to some earlier postings...this drive definitely has BURNPROOF (which is a godsend) and the buffer is 1.8M...works great with Nero and CDRWin.

Question: Does upgrading the firmware kill your warrenty? especially since it's a Sanyo update but it's a drive sold by Iomega. I'd like to flash it but cd roms break, they always do, it's just a question of when. Thanks for any info.

Hope yoour drive is performing as it should.
If not, there are a couple of things that come to mind.
First and foremost, I do not doubt your compentency in the least.
I was on a forum and saw where someone was having somewhat random
problems and it turned out that the iomega cdrw was jumpered as a slave but was on the end of the IDE cable with a cdrom as master and plugged in the middle. I thought this only applied to hard drives but apparently
not. I also noticed that the little installation booklet that came with the cdrw showed three sets of pins for slave, master, and cable select.
which would be :::
On the actual drive, there was like :::::: (I'm trying to remember if it was 5 or 6 sets of jumper pins) I was confused for a minute and then noticed that there was a sticker on the drive that referred to the 5 or 6 pin setup.

Just trying to cover all the bases,

Was there actually an advertisement regarding the rebate? If so, could someone PM me about it. Thank you.

gdog, you asked about the default jumper setting on the Iomega drive, and someone responded that the default jumper on the drive is set to MASTER. Well, that was not the case for my drive.

I bought the Iomega drive at Compusa this week, and the jumper on my drive was set at the factory to SLAVE, not master.

So, if you haven't checked this, please do.

I really hate to go on and on about this flash update thing but lets face it, this is the best place to get info about it. I flashed with the WinFlash243e.exe and pointed the flasher to the bp90_327.bin file and did the flash but when it was finished the drive ID was IOMEGA ZIPCDINT 1536 with a new firmware # 3.27. This is how it is recognized in CMOS and device manager in win98se. I thought everything would say SANYO CRD-BP900P or something like that. Is my stuff telling me the correct stuff?

Slightly confused.
Thanks in advance

Mathwiz: sounds right to me. Same with just about everyone else.

Anymore words on the rebate? Seems there's no sure answer...

I brought my yesterday and they had 7 in the store. Afterward, I talked to the Victor, compusa manager at burbank, CA location and he straight out told me that they were not going to honor the rebate even if it is misprinted on the ad. He told me that Compusa is not responsible for misprinted ad and that i should call iomega and complain to them. He was just straight out plain rude. I argued with him for half an hour and finally told him, "what the heck. give me your corporate number and i will call them to complain." What should i do next to get the rebate?

Just got back from picking one up - noticed on the big cork board where they pin up the ad and put stickers on it to tell you which bin the rebate form is located had what appeared to be an e-mail from "advertising" telling the store to tell people that the rebate will indeed be honored on the 12x4x32, not just the 8x4x32. It also made a couple other (less important ) corrections/clarifications to the ad. FWIW, 'twas the store on Manchester Rd. outside of StL, MO.

Wish I had a digital camera to take a picture of the posted note so
I could hand that to CUSA along with copies of everything else if it does get rejected...

that's so close... how's their deals usually? do they jibe with here?
moderator, would it be unethical to gank this email before close of business tomorrow and scan it for preople to use? would it cause more problems for deal-hunters than it was worth (in the long run)? probably so. i never get any answers around here, so i guess i answered my own yet again.

tweekah,
appreciate the reply. As for the rebate, I hear a lot of promising
talk from CUSA people but I think IOMEGA will be the name on the rebate check, so you know how that goes. I'm just gonna send mine in and forget about it.(heck, I've got a 30 and a 15 in transition as we post.)If it comes back I'll do something real special with it like buy a tank of gas or something. good luck to all of us.

The drive kicks...regardless of the rebate.
Later,

Check this out all you computer junkies. I just read in the iomega 12X10X32 thread that a guy just received his $30 rebate from iomega.
Ready for this.........18 days after he mailed it. WOW that is some kinda fast. Maybe iomega does want to disperse a little cash!
Gotta go. Gotta run down the mailman.
