how much do you pay a month, just for rent alone?

Is it expensive based on where you live?

I'm at $555 for a single bedroom apartment this 07-08 lease, living in Central Florida. I wouldn't say it's cheap but it's going to be alot more next year ($719/month)

$595 for the upper level of a house with a full backyard. 2 bedrooms. Private entrance, private porch, and off street parking.

Cheap where I live, due to me renting it in November instead of August

$960/month in the NW area of Washington, DC. I have a small studio with 200-250 sq-ft I think.

And nothing fancy like dishwasher, etc. Quite the contrary, it is all pretty minimalist.

But $960 is very cheap for the area. Studios nearby cost easily $1300-1800/month.

$1600 a month for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment.

It's not a bad apartment, but it isn't that great either. We're definitely getting our money's worth for the area though.

$1355 for a 1 bedroom apartment. I have my own garage though, which somewhat makes up for the ridiculous rate.

Yep, not much at all.

My place on the north side of ATL was 3x the size with garage, in-unit A/C, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc. and cost $750/month.

The GF lived with me for 2 months, though since we didn't each have "our own corners" it got a little rough. She has since bought a place nearby.

As for guests, I have had friends stay over a few times. I even had three additional people stay over once. They pretty much took up all floor space LOL. So it's possible, just not comfortable. And no, I don't host formal dinners or anything.

if I calculated right I have ~700 sq. ft. of room. 1 bedroom for $400 a month + free water and garbage. I'd say I get my money's worth.

$450/month for a 2-bedroom apartment that's pretty well by itself. It was formerly a house which apparently had half of it torn down, and built in the form of a small store/deli. The apartment has the 2 bedrooms upstairs, while downstairs has the kitchen, a small storage room, livingroom, and an enclosed porch with poor insulation. This former-porch area is where the bathroom, and washer and dryer are. Garbage is "paid," as I am allowed to just use the store's dumpster whenever I want. I pay for other utilities. It's actually a bit pricier than I'd like, but I've got loads of space, no neighbors to be playing loud music or partying at any time day or night, and a great landlord. It's also about 2 miles from a small shopping district.

It's a reasonable price for an apartment around here. 1 bedroom in this area would usually go for around $400. Downtown apartments and efficiencies are closer to $300.
