rent is extremely expensive here for a nice place but there are deals to be had always. I was renting a $500/month 1/1 that would have been about $850-1000 normally and I still wouldn't have had two assigned spots in front of my unit.

Right now though is a renter's market. Lot's of drowning speculators are renting out their places cheap to try and stall foreclosure / keep their heads above water not to lose everything they put into them.

I moved out about 5 months ago and my rent had only climbed to $625 or so. At that time houses were on fire sale for $800/month rent for older ones and new 3000 sq ft ones at $1500 per month.

$925/month for a 700 sqft 1-bedroom on a first floor.

eat-in kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, 4 closets, no laundry facilities.

I feel like it's a little on the high end for what I'm getting, but it's hard to beat not having to drive to work and I'm probably saving ~$200/month in gas from my old place, where I burned through three tanks of gas every two weeks (my apartment is only a mile away from my office... I drive when the weather's crappy, but I'm planning on buying a bike in the spring)

$1015/month + utilities for 1100 sqft 2 bed 2 bath on the top (3rd) floor. Split rent with one other guy, 3 miles from USF, pretty new place too. I used to drive from home to USF and back every day, about 150 miles round trip.

OP that rent doesn't sound too bad for Florida, but what do I know.

I happen to be the person collecting rent, which is good.
Solid year round college/family rentals go for 600-700 a flat, 3br, 1ba ~1100-1500 sqft.
Less dependable, crap ass seasonal college rentals go for ~1500-1800 per student per semester on a 2-3br flat. They never get their security deposit back, but it's a good asset builder.

Let's see... $5150 per person for a double room on campus...

That's for the ~8 months I'm here. That comes out to roughly $644/month.

So:

Durham, NC
240 sq.ft 1br
$644/month per person

Even with all utilities and other stuff paid for it's obvious they are making a killing on housing fees... I mean come on, $1300 for a dinky room with drafty windows and no air-conditioning? Puh-lease.

I'm at $555 for a single bedroom apartment this 07-08 lease, living in Central Florida. I wouldn't say it's cheap but it's going to be alot more next year ($719/month)

Yeah, if your paying $555 now, and next year it will be $719, i would be concerned, a 29%, $164, increase isn't anything to just blow off. I had less of an increase on my rent this year, $65 to bring me up to $1194, in N.VA.
