Yup, definitely TYs... despite the "color" CDRs... and no rebate hassle with CC nor limit on number... so if folks really wanna stock up...

My local store had at least five spindles left and had deals on the 50pks and 30pks as well in case you didn't want that many.

Hey all,

Even though theses are TY's..are non-colored TY's better than these Colored ones? i had some colored cdr's once and they sucked a$$ so just wondering if it was the kind i had or all colored cdr's that are bad?

Dumb question: What does B&M mean?

Also, are jewel cases ever on sale or are they just cheap? I bought two packs of 16x Memorex at Staples that came with jewel cases. If I get these here Tys I'll have to get jewel cases.

B & M = Brick and Mortar

Means a store, made of bricks, that you can actually visit, not an online store.

No worries, everybody's new at some point. Best of luck on Hot deals.

EDIT:
How did you get 331 post as a senior member without knowing what B&M was?

I've lurked here for years, got 5 posts, and I knew that.

Wait a sec=

Def: lurked - looked at stuff, viewed pages without ever commenting or posting or participating.

In case you missed that one.

Cya!

<< If you want to save a buck or two more, I'd check out my local OfficeMax B&M store first to see if they still have any of the HP 16x CDRs left. OfficeMax has been clearing them out at $14 for 50pk. They're Taiyo Yudens, no different than the Fujifilm 24x. >>

Beware.. on Black Friday I grabbed the last $14 HP spindle at the OfficeMax B&M near me, and it turns out they're only 74min/650MB (yes, they're TY). Also, they were labeled as.. I think it was 12x, maybe even less. They burn fine at 16x though. Still, read the package before you buy in case these things matter to you.

If you can't find the hp's at Officemax pick up the Fuji 50 pak 24x's for $22.99. The Sonys at Officemax weren't made in Japan so I passed on them.

For those of you who live in the Bay Area, if you're still looking for 24x Taiyo Yuden's, I was at Officemax B&M in San Mateo (near Hillsdale / El Camino) earlier today and saw that they still had at least 5 spindles of HP 700MB 16x 50-packs on the shelf. These should be on clearance and should ring up at $14. They're Taiyo Yuden's, no different than the Fujifilm 24x. At $14, it's a pretty good deal IMHO.

>>yay, 24x cert. my 12x fuji's top out at around 16 or 20.

That's odd, I swore I read somewhere that the 12x and 24x media were identicle, just rebadged? I remember seeing something about just placing stickers over the barcodes when fujifilm made the conversion . . .

From what I've read, the 16x and 24x are identical. But I don't remember seeing anywhere that says the 12x is identical as well. With Taiyo Yuden's quality, it wouldn't be surprising that they set their manufacturing tolerance high enough that 16x can be burned at 24x. But to be able to burn 12x at 24x is a bit of a stretch, IMHO.

Blah. I've been burning through hundred-spindles of Imation (CMC Magnetics) 12x media at 24x without a hitch. Works great.

TY's are great for the quality stuff, but for audio discs and other "junk", there's no reason to spend more.

Sorry for the newbie Q, but I'm new to this scene.

So what you guys are saying is, if I want to burn something that I want to keep in an archive for a long time, I should use "Taiyo-Yuden"? I've got a 50-pk. of TY from a free FujiFilm promo awhile back, should be saving these ones for stuff I want to keep for ever and ever?

Two quick things:

#1. Was just at the target B&M in chicago on western and elston. No go. They have TONS of these CD-R's, but they all ring up at $44. It's not an advertised special either, so couldn't get them.

#2. Anyone know if these are the same media as what fuji used for their 16x's? If so, I think i'm just gonna buy a spindle or two from thewiz.com.

I just gave in and bought a spindle from thewiz.com since my local Target didn't have the 50x2 pack on sale... it's still $45.

Oh well, $35 shipped for TY's is acceptable It's just too bad that quality CD media is getting expensive. I wish HP.com still had their good stuff in stock, too.
