some benchmarks from phone arena

Quadrant Standard AnTuTu NenaMark 2
HTC One S 4867 7012 60,7
HTC One X 4848 11024 47,4
Samsung Galaxy S II 3113 6076 51
Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2000 5503 24

One S is clearly faster in all benchmarks, from what ive read sense 4.0 is more fluid than previous versions probably a combination of the software and the really great s4 chip. I think the materials are better than the samsung phone and the camera is superior as well. The nexus does have a better and bigger screen but its also more unwieldy in the hand due to its size. For me I would go with the HTC. Not too mention its subsidized on tmo where as the nexus is going to be full price.

Buy the HTC One S subsidized. Sell it and take the money and buy Galaxy Nexus. Profit.

Why wait??? TMO needs all the business it can get!!!

That is true, but I already have a sensation in mid contract so even if the phone was made out of solid gold I wouldnt be getting it. I do think its a cool phone though and am glad to see HTC getting some positive press after the samsung shitstorm they suffered through last year.

The One S has an unlocked bootloader, I think? Should be awesome to see what these things can really do once the manufacturer skin and carrier bloat are removed.

Who knows, brightness might be set low on the Nexus and high on the HTC. Having a completely different type of wallpaper does not help with the comparison either, they both use pentile AMOLED screens.

If you can live with a two year contract then get the HTC one s.

I have a no contract plan and went with the galaxy nexus. That combined with my brothers discounted plan, we pay about $120 per month after taxes and fees for three smartphones and two dumb phones.

Fyi galaxy nexus can be found for about $450

I had a Galaxy Nexus, had to return it because it was defective (an open box sale).

I'm still thinking about getting another Galaxy Nexus. I loved the display on it, high DPI really is nice and I'm not sure I really want to settle for just qHD. Also the Galaxy Nexus is $100 cheaper. And lastly it's a Nexus.

But the One S has a much better SoC. It's thinner. It's HSPA+ 42, though sadly it seems the reviewers weren't really able to test that out yet.

Hmmm... do I want a better screen and pure Android or do I want faster processor and possibly faster data? Don't know.

PS. I'll probably wait until May and see if by some miracle the GS3 comes out on T-Mobile before summer (hopes aren't that high).

Damn, forgot about this.
Galaxy Nexus it is.

Not to mention the fact that you'd be guaranteed the next Android update.

That last bit sealed the deal for me, or rather for my sister since she's the one getting a new phone. You can find the Nexus for $150 less, it has a higher res screen, and, most importantly, there's not going to be any carrier nonsense about delaying Jelly Bean for 5+ months.

Right now I've got a Sensation, and it took me forever to get this thing put together the way I want it (running ARHD 6.6.2 with about half a dozen mods, Anker battery, etc). T-mobile still hasn't pushed out the OTA update for their Sensations, so if not for the ROMS I'd be stuck on Gingerbread still.

In the future, I might consider getting a non-Nexus phone for myself, just so I can tinker around with it, but for the family, and for anyone who just wants the phone to work and not have to mess with rooting and ROMs and endless hours on xdadevelopers, Nexus or iPhone is the way to go.

Well, I have 4 lines with 2 having upgrades so getting a One S is a no brainer.
Seems like everything about the S is great except the qHD screen.
The one thing I hate about the Nexus is the onscreen buttons.
I'll use 1 upgrade now and see if Tmos is getting the SIII or G4x in the pipeline.

i just got an unlocked gnex on tmobile and it's amazing to use.

i thought about the one S in passing, but the lower resolution screen alone was a deal breaker.

the gnex is about $450 unlocked now and the one S is $200 with contract.

Thanks for the replies.

Besides the disadvantage of being bigger, I think the Nexus has several advantages:

-Pentabad 3g for TMOUS and Global Use
-Better screen (higher dpi)
-Cheaper off-contract ($450 vs. $599)
-Stock ICS/will get future upgrades faster
-Removable battery
-Standard SIM

Disadvantages of the Nexus:

-Size/pocketability
-No expandable memory (same as the S)

Where do you all think is the best place to buy a Galaxy Nexus? From which seller? Is there a specific model to look for (yakju)?

I bought it from negri electronics. They honor international warranty in case something happens to your phone .

Don't forget TMobile $35 upgrade fee and tax on One S.

No T-Mobile bloatware on GNex. Free unrestricted hotspot and tethering thanks to foreign IMEI.

The only con for Nexus is no warranty.

Hmmm. I wanna see what the sgs3 brings. I have a sgs and sgs2 and both accounts I have on tmo are due for renewal now. I'm leaning to whomever has a HD display that also has HD Netflix playback.
