Look at the A-10, those things can get shot all to h311 and still come home.

old but a goody. the cool head of the pilot saved the plane. The IAF is considered one of the best airforces in the world. and the A-10's aren't that good. they can suffer damage, but i don't think their design could withstand the loss of a wing.

and the A-10's aren't that good

You know of anything else that agile at low speeds which can carry that kind of payload? I know a few Reservists that served in Desert Storm who would take exception with your decree. Is it as fast as an unladden Frogfoot (heh, almost said 'swallow') - no, but even though they're no longer produced they are excellent bang for the buck and do their job exceedingly well.

Yeah, seriously, it's like all the IAF trained pilots left and the only guys they were left with were trained at the Monty Python school of aerial combat.

I work with a guy who worked on A-10s in Desert Storm as a reservist, and in his opinion it's one of the most sturdy aircraft he's ever seen. While this particular kind of damage might have downed an A-10, they can get a lot more shot up and still fly home thanks to a very sturdy and very failsafe design with no single point of failure. Of course you need this when you're strafing tanks instead of flying around at 30k feet
