ForceTheVote: The Progressive Squad Folds to the Establishment Democrats - Even when having leverage

The ask was simple: In order to vote in Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House - voters asked to force her to commit to making a house-vote for a medicare for all bill.

With just a SLIGHT minimal majority in the House, they only needed a few house members to vote against the establishment, and should have been seen as a viable threat.

At minimal, this would put people's money where their mouth is to go on record of who is in favor of universal healthcare and who is not.

Most importantly - the squad was elected ENTIRELY on the basis of what they preached - which was medicare for all. They preached it. They were elected based on it. They have quickly learn to just ignore their voters and instead go with the establishment.

It's nice to see the squad is enjoying their delicious capitalist money and have quickly folded their cards to become members of the establishment class. They give the same ol' excuse - now isn't the time. Maybe later. lol. If now - during a worldwide pandemic of people losing healthcare coverage left and right isn't the correct time for medicare for all - then when is? Tomorrow? In 5 years? 10 years?

Now #FraudSquad is trending

And that's exactly correct. If you can't even get someone to use their position to force a vote for what you were elected on - then you're nothing but a giant POS.

Lol, what leverage do they have?

For them to have leverage they would have to have some credible alternative speaker they could get people to rally behind to depose Pelosi if she wouldn’t hold this vote. Do they have that? If so, who? If you can’t name that person their leverage is zero.

It's a good thing that they won't try to get the things done that voters elected them on that they promised?

Causing unnecessary drama in the caucus for something that isn't going to happen is self destructive futility, a Tea Party specialty.

If the Ds capture the senate there will be a policy fight but they certainly know given the margin in the senate Medicare for All is going nowhere right now. Major policy wins in a reconciliation bill however will be on the table.

Self-destructive? Uhhhh, wut?

Last I checked the tea-party got a ton of shit done. It might not have been what you or I wanted - but they got a lot of shit done and enacted a lot of change and got a lot of tea-party folks elected at the time. Now today - 10+ years later, do you continue to see articles talking about how divisive the republican party is with the tea-party vs. other republicans?

So again I'll just as you the question in my OP straight up: If NOW - during a global pandemic with people losing their insurance left and right isn't the time for universal healthcare... then when is?

I miss when magats and qunts were outraged over the costs of hair care for Congress women. That was at least funny, if additionally pathetic.

Acting like it's the Dems that have their heads buried over healthcare and the pandemic? That's just sad. People seriously don't get not wanting to tip your hand when there are elections still happening? Really?

Imagine where we'd be if low information shitheads like banana republicans were as fearful of traitors in power like Trump, as they are of AOC. Our economy and 364k+ Americans would be in a lot better shape I bet.

If America wants different policies then they should send different people to the US Senate or better yet demand the body be altered to better reflect their desires.

The article explains quite clearly why this would be counterproductive. There is no anti-Pelosi to vote for in the first place, it would just split the Dems in half when it's time to show a united front against, I dunno, a party of which a large number is trying to overthrow democracy, and everyone who is for Medicare for all has already run on it so they don't need to get on the record. I fail to see how this makes anybody a sell-out when they are simply not caving to a dream of one small progressive group. If they don't do everything every progressive wants they are now sellouts?

This entire thread apparently was based on the OP's rage boner for AOC and a lack of understanding of what leverage is.

I demand freedom of movement and if you don’t give it to me I will shoot myself in the foot. Also, in order to honor my electors I am going to play brain dead. I believe that if you can’t give people what they want you should find additional ways to fuck them. @s0me0nesmind1 Please take yourself out of competition with me. My understanding of what a real idiot looks like, via a far greater capacity to introspect, is much more complete.

They didn’t have leverage. If to many Dems defected it would have been Speaker McCarthy instead or Speaker Pelosi. That would have been a disaster/self inflicted wound for the Dems.

The biggest accomplishment of the Tea Party was to obstruct Obama and dumb down their constituents with bullshit. Some may think that's getting a shit ton done. I agree, a shit ton of damage to the country.

Maybe they did try. And maybe they didn't have leverage or votes for it, as has been noted. What then do they do, go to war against their own party at a time when the GOP is literally trying to steal the election and we have a major crisis (Covid) on our hands?

Job #1, Obstructing Obama at every turn. It seems to me that the Repubs believe their Tea terrorists did a really good job of it via threatening their fellow Repubs into going further far right into the raging morass of racist influenced party poopies that they are today. They got a lot done, it's just that it was all done for the benefit of their party and nothing for the country.

edit - Mr. Squished beat me to it. I need to type a lot faster.
