Forcing 1:1 Pixel Mapping

I currently have a Samsung 2443BW 24" LCD supporting 1920x1200, and would like to hook up an Xbox 360 / PS3 to use this monitor as output versus a TV. The issue here is that the output coming from the game console will be 1920x1080, meaning that the picture will be vertically-stretched (due to an additional 120 pixels).

My question is, since my 2443BW does not appear to support 1:1 pixel mapping, is there some sort of hardware I can buy that can possibly insert black lines at the top/bottom such that the final image maintains 1920x1080?

Your best best is to use 1680x1050 which is the highest 16:10 resolution supported by the xbox 360 (don't know about the PS3). This will make your 360 give you the correct aspect ratio. The image quality is minimally affected by this because most games are rendered at a lower resolution anyway. You will still get that slightly dull image thing that happens when running an LCD at non-native rez, but the only way to fix that is to get an LCD that supports 1:1 mapping.

Thanks for the quick response, I was not aware of the lower 16:10 resolutions on the xbox 360 so that definitely helps! It's too bad monitor manufacturers get too lazy and exclude the 1:1 pixel mapping feature.

Probably as a way to cut costs. Although I always thought Samsung had 1:1 pixel mapping... I guess not.
