Forcing Video Drivers in XP

I'm trying to chang the drivers for my Hercules Pro card from the XP installed to the NVIDIA ones so I can get the OpenGL functions.

I keep getting stuck with the message: Cannot Continue Hardware Wizard

The Wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed.

How do I get by this so I can get OpenGL to work? Also-- driver recomendations?

I'll pray for ya, buddy. But, after seeing the way WinXP reacts to drivers it doesn't like, I wouldn't even think of trying to ram a video driver it didn't like down its throat.

Perhaps a guru will lead the way. I'm puttin' in my two cents so I can keep track of this thread.

The drivers I'm trying to install are the ones for XP from the NVIDIA site. I assume they are MS XP compatable. XP just thinks it has the best there is and won't allow me to update to ones that have OpenGL. From my search here, I found others that have gotten by the problem, they just arn't specific as to how to do it.

Have you tried manual install of update driver?
You will need to first extract all the driver files to a directory.

Right click your desktop.
Properties
Settings tab
Advanced
Adapter tab
properties
Driver tab
Update driver

Then choose: Install from a list or specific location.
Then choose: Don't search, I will choose the driver to install.
Then click: have disk, and locate the directory of the driver.

Okay, I think I understand a little better now. It looks as though MrCoyote has the right of it. I've been through that process successfully in Windows 2000. Haven't given it a shot in WinXP, though. I hope you'll post to let us know how it goes!

I'm stupid! i was trying to install the XP/64 drivers. I d'n loaded the correct ones and now everything is workin fine.

Followed MrCoyote's directions and it went perfect.

Just wishful thinking, then! I wouldn't mind having the 64 bit version to play with -- and the machinery upon which to install it!

Glad you got the drivers updated. So, don't keep us in suspense. How did OpenGL work?
