However, I think by the end of this decade Tesla will be in the top 5 for worldwide Auto Sales. The currently are 15th for 2022. In 2021 they where 18th and in 2020 they were 27.

This is certainly possible. I don't question their ability, just their market cap.

Yeah I question their market cap also. Which is why I am staying away from their stock. I really don't see how a P/E of 75 or 50 for that matter is justified for their stock. Ford is 18-20, GM is 6.

We're in the demo for Tesla but would likely not buy another vehicle from them due to 1) Elon 2) Don't dig the screen controls for everything 3) very difficult to deal with the company for CS. I also honestly did not find our Model 3 to be comfortable for long drives due to the seats.

I can easily sit tight in my i3s for a few years and see what's on offer then.

Rented a Model Y from Hertz to drive to Las Vegas and back from San Diego for a conference last week. I found the seats in the Y very comfortable, more comfortable than the seats in our Leaf. However I can understand the concern with screen controls for everything. There was a bit of learning curve figuring it out and I think some stuff we never really figured it out. However as compared to L3 charging with the Leaf, Supercharging with the Y we had zero issues. I did some things with the Y that I would never do with the Leaf because I couldn't depend on working chargers.

The consensus between my husband and I was that the seats in my old 330e were much more comfortable than his Model 3. An opinion we both confirmed when we drove each car from Austin to San Diego for our move. He sold his Model 3 and got an id.4 which he likes a lot better. Tesla does have the charging scheme down which was a big reason to get their car in the first place. We drove from SD to Tucson last Christmas rolling the dice that all the fast chargers would work and they mostly did but it was not nearly as smooth. Hopefully Tesla rolls out more magic dock locations soonish.

What year of Model 3 did your husband have? The ID4 was one of the cars my wife and I also looked at and it had a lot of things we liked.

2021 Long Range. He's very happy with his switch to the ID.

Of course @bbhaag laughs at links to data, because it's been quite clear that guy solidly leans right even though he thinks he is moderate.

If he wasn't having a mid-40s crisis he would bought a Tesla, but he got a Ford mustang EV instead for a mid life crisis

That is how far right I am.

How is the infotainment center screen responsive? We didn't get to play much with it during our short test drive but we heard there was performance issues with the infotainment center that may have been addressed with later software updates. Did VW get plug/charge to work with EA chargers yet? We are going to need to test drive the ID4 again before we make a decision. Doesn't look like Hertz rents the ID4 and I cannot see any ID4's for rent on Turo either, which is unfortunate.

He hasn't complained about it and I'm not allowed to touch it as a passenger lol. I think his only annoyance is the capacitive buttons for climate control but still beats dealing with the touch screen on the Tesla.

Haven't tried to get plug/charge working on EA yet AFAIK so not sure if supported quite yet. When we go to LA or Palm Springs generally leave it plugged into a L2 overnight, usually free with hotel parking where we've stayed.

When I was looking at EVs I test drove as many as I could and of course Tesla was one of the first. Beyond the things you listed I also didn't care for the fact that their closest service center was over 45 minutes away from me. That is a long way to go for routine maintenance or if something catastrophic happened and I had to have it towed that far.

Not saying that it was a deal breaker but it did impact my decision versus my local Ford service center that is about 10 minutes away. Sales is the one thing that most people look at when buying a new vehicle but honestly service is just as important especially if you keep the vehicle beyond its warranty. IMO most people over look the service aspect when purchasing a new vehicle.

I was bored, not drunk. You have a hard on for Elon for whatever reason. You said, THE BRAND IS NOT TAKING ANY HIT. I posted data that said it was, plus an article that echoed realistic investor concerns which are quite well known at this point, and you laughed at it. Typical of previous responses in the past from you, and also quite the characteristic of the right, laugh at facts.

I'm glad you're not republican homophobic, that's wonderful news. Several other threads from some time back you were definitely on the GQP tip and it was funny to watch you try to say you were not.

I hope you don't have too many republican friends who are going to pretend they are ok with your son corrupting our children.

God damn you're thick headed aren't you. I'm about to pick you apart piece by piece son.

No and in this thread alone I already mentioned twice that one of the reasons I didn't purchase a Tesla was becasue of their CEO. I literally mentioned it one post above yours in response to K1052

You said, THE BRAND IS NOT TAKING ANY HIT
No I didn't. I said that last quarter Tesla had the best selling vehicle in the world.

I posted data that said it was, plus an article that echoed realistic investor concerns which are quite well known at this point, and you laughed at it.
You posted your data after I made my posts not before. Go back and look becasue I know you don't believe me. Can you show me where I laughed at the data you provided?

Typical of previous responses in the past from you, and also quite the characteristic of the right, laugh at facts
Again I didn't laugh at any facts you provided. Go back and look becasue I know you don't believe me. Instead you insist on bringing politics into a discussion were they are not warranted.

Honestly it's probably best if you just stay out of the Garage sub. It is obvious you have no idea about cars becasue you called the Mustang EV a mid life crisis car. Bro it's a mid size cross over SUV......becasue nothing screams mid life crisis like a glorified four door hatch back.

That is definitely helps. I think my next vehicle purchase will be all electric, but I want a truck but also one that isn't giant.

This is going to provide an endless revenue stream for Tesla, pretty smart! They're going to be "THE" new "gas" station for EV's now that Tesla, Ford, and Rivian are onboard! Half of the other brands of chargers don't work or take forever.

In not too long the tesla charging network will basically be the biggest part of the brand. The cars are dated and known as not finished that great. The Cybertruck looks like a dog. The brand is tarnished among their biggest customer base, because Musk has shown he is a lunatic right wing conspiracy theorist white nationalist, and it ain't MAGGATS who are into EV's.

-Yep, Tesla's first mover advantage has taken them quite far, but their future will really be more about their logistics and infrastructure lead and less about the actual cars themselves.

That old "the real gold is in outfitting the prospectors" kind of situation.

Yeah I saw the news this morning on the mach-e forum I hang out on. Pretty exciting stuff!! Apparently Stellantis and Hyundai are also in talks with Tesla.

If these two giants get on board with NACS it's game over man game over for CCS.

After a decade of everyone resisting it’s amazing to see the industry shift this quickly to what is obviously the superior design.

I’m a little bit annoyed to have just installed four J1772 chargers at my house, but overall this is really good for the industry and I will either buy new cables or new chargers as I replace J1772 vehicles with NACS.

But - Rivian with Supercharger access is all I have wanted since I got it, so this is great news for me charger obsolescence aside.

What is your review of your Rivian? I have a college buddy who works there, left Apple to go there, which shocked me. They look nice, but for what I need at their current price levels is waaaay over kill. But when my oldest is driving age, I could hand down my current car and see myself getting one.

Bluntly? It’s fucking awesome. I can honestly say there is no other vehicle I would rather daily drive at any price point. It’s stupid fast, handles far better than it has any right to, it’s comfortable, has great headlights, isn’t absurdly large (navigates city center parking garages with no issues) but still has enough cargo capacity to be useful (we have the bed full several times a week). Did I mention it’s just silly fast? The quad motor drivetrain puts down power like you would not believe, even in pouring rain. I gave someone a ride in a rainstorm and warned them to brace their head before launching off a light. He was very confused how a vehicle could possibly put down enough power on a wet road to have head impacting acceleration, but sure enough it does.

It’s not perfect, my tonneau is a shit-show and it’s got a few minor build issues that I’ll get fixed when it goes in for the tonneau replacement. It’s single greatest flaw is its efficiency - Needing far more power than a 3/Y but being stuck with the CCS network circa 2023 makes it not great for long trips. But it’s still by far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned.

Another edit: One more flaw, LED headlights + flat face = snow accumulation. If you live in a place where you frequently need to drive in the snow it’s a serious problem. They need headlight warming systems or something to keep the lights unobstructed. I had a GX 470 that I put LED lights in that had the same problem, so it’s not like it’s unique to Rivian but in a snowy climate that would be really obnoxious. The dismal efficiency of ICE and HID headlights do have their advantages sometimes.

More trickles of news coming out on the NACS front.

Electrify America to add NACS to all chargers by 2025.

SAE to recognize NACS as a standard.

And Volvo/Polestar get onboard starting in 2025.
