If this had 3 features (might be optional?) I'd strongly consider it to tide me over til I get an electric pickup. A panoramic sunroof, heated & cooled seats, and front bench (for up to 6 seating) for the times when I would need it.

Also, ugh at the little rear window. Why do they not just put larger ones like the original Titan had? They're much better and also better for rear visibility.

I do wish the power was a bit higher like 205-230 and I think it would've made the ecoboost version moot (or they could have saved it for a Raptor esque higher end model, basically use a retuned version of the Focus RS powertrain). But I'm guessing we won't get one of those so this way the aftermarket can offer it while Ford gets to tout the 40mpg city.

You may as well say, if they would only build convertible version (Skip the Dakota Ragtop images - that won't happen here).

What you see is what you get.

Oh man, that brings up memories. I had one when I lived in Florida. Ultimate beach car! Throw your boards in the back & pop the top!

The fuel mileage on that little truck is super impressive! Unlike a Cybertruck (or an Electric F-150), most people can actually afford it as well!

I hope that Chevrolet responds by bringing back the El Camino
Well, this isn't a Ranchero, so it won't be the El Camino. Maybe the Luv?

Or if they follow suit and name it after an old car in their lineup, it'll be a Vega!

Had I not bought a Sorento Hybrid in January, I probably would be buying the Maverick.

Maybe if they made a version with no cab or a smaller extended cab. As it is a 4.5' bed is a joke. Stretch it to 6' and I would be ok with that length. 40mpg is great though.

Everything that Chevy makes seems to look like an SUV now, so I'd imagine that their "new" El Camino would like a Equinox crossover with a truck bed. Think Jeep Gladiator, but a lot curvier.

It would be a creative way to compete in the "little truck" revival, though!

I mean WTF, did they run out of names that they had to recycle them?

Just saw the post above about the Vega. I mean that car was a total POS.

If you think about it, it's not a bad name really, and since they already own it - win! It was just funny to me that it used to be a car, and not a very exciting one at that. Did not mean to derail the thread, though.

It's not for me, but I think there is a definite market for it; especially if those mileage numbers hold up. Seems to be a good mix of utility and economy.

The VAST majority of buyers will have never heard of the original Maverick.

I was born in the 60's and these existed in my teen years when I started becoming a car nut.

I don't remember ever seeing one, or ever discussing it with my car nut friends.

They are marketing this car to small business owners, young people and people who live in certain areas.
The 40 people who would make a big fuss about Ford digging up an old name plate are not in the target market for this car nor should anyone really care.

I'm also old enough to remember when these cars were still on the road.
Mavericks were just another old shitty 70's crap box to get from point a to point b. There was nothing exceptional about them.

During their heyday, they were an appliance that probably served original owners well during the typical lifespan of cars of that era. For most people...not that long.

I've never seen so many women in a truck commercial, I think I know who they're marketing this towards...

I was also a bit confused when I saw the thread title and then saw an image of a truck, and I'm not that old. I guess going to car shows as a child made me think car.

If we can't get America to buy fuel efficient regular cars/wagons then I guess this is the next best thing.

I have a pre-order in for a Cybertruck, but as you know with driving a Mustang in CT...it would be nice to have an AWD/4WD option for the winter lol. Particularly one that is literally half the cost of the base Cybertruck haha!

I'm curious about that too, like there's an entire dictionary's worth of names available, why re-use one? Especially one that was only on the market for less than ten years. Plus, I was frustrated when they called the new Mach-E a Mustang, as it's an SUV & doesn't have the same aesthetics. It's a cool car for what it is, but calling it the "Stallion" or something would have been more fitting imo.

Name aside, I think it's a brilliant truck. I still can't get over $20k + 40mpg lol.

Nearly every new car I see is an SUV or crossover these days, so it makes sense. I think the Maverick is gonna sell really, really well, especially as they already have a variety of bed covers available (both soft & hard, and in different styles), so people can pretty much just buy a turnkey pickup truck to do daily errands & stuff with.

Before I got my current car, I had it boiled down to my couple & the Ridgeline v2. The Ridgeline is a fantastic truck for people who don't need a work-sized truck, but at $36k base right now, it was WAY more than I wanted to pay for a daily driver. Had the Maverick been available at the time, I probably would have gone with that tbh.

I'm curious to see what the crash test ratings on it will be, being both a truck & on the more compact side.

I think there's a pretty big market for women for this vehicle, especially for those who want something easier to access (vs. having to load an SUV or a van), maybe isn't so giant & "macho", where you can chuck stuff over the side into the bed, etc. My wife thought it was pretty cool because you could still use it for day to day stuff because parking is easy, it gets great mileage, it's relatively affordable compared to bigger trucks, etc.

It is odd that they re-used the name, but given how old the car is, I don't think too many people will be upset about reusing the name, especially as the old Maverick isn't as popular as like a vintage Mustang or Chevelle.

Their product chief said that they're aiming to appeal to a more diverse demographic set, including women, and that he expects there to be a lot of first-time truck buyers for whom trucks were either too big or to expensive previously. I'm definitely in that category!

Although the main reason I wanted a Cybertruck was that having a 500-mile battery with a million-mile battery life, not so much as a truck but just as a cool, long-lasting vehicle that could get me through winter haha. But man, $20k base price for a brand-new truck with awesome features does sound pretty great!

I like it...but won't buy it. The lack of 4x4 option is a deal killer for me.

I use a 2007 Mazda Tribute SUV as a "winter beater" to pair with my shiny new Mustang. I bought that car so cheap that I really don't care if I end up wrapping it around a telephone pole during a snowstorm

If my commute suddenly changed and I needed a more reliable car to replace it... this or a Bronco Sport could be a option.

Why?
What exactly would you be using it for where you need 4x4 over AWD? Rock crawling?

edit: (Stops to reminisce about my old Bronco II and checks used car market for what's out there)

This is kinda on par with what I was thinking to. I didn't watch the commercial but the minute I read through this thread and watched a couple of youtube vids I started specing and XLT model out for my wife.
She has always wanted a truck but is to intimidated with the prospect of a full size F-150 type and the mid size offers like the Ranger and others are to expensive. Once I showed her this and she watched a couple of the vids she is onboard with buying a new Maverick. She said she really likes the size but wants one with the 4k towing capacity so we will miss out on that 40mpg city rating but it is what it is.

EDIT: We put a reserve in on an XLT model in white with the 4k tow package and the XLT luxury package. Only additional add ons were a full size spare.
Total came to right around $28k so with a $13k down payment it comes out to $285/month for 5 years.
