This is kinda on par with what I was thinking to. I didn't watch the commercial but the minute I read through this thread and watched a couple of youtube vids I started specing and XLT model out for my wife.
She has always wanted a truck but is to intimidated with the prospect of a full size F-150 type and the mid size offers like the Ranger and others are to expensive. Once I showed her this and she watched a couple of the vids she is onboard with buying a new Maverick. She said she really likes the size but wants one with the 4k towing capacity so we will miss out on that 40mpg city rating but it is what it is.

EDIT: We put a reserve in on an XLT model in white with the 4k tow package and the XLT luxury package. Only additional add ons were a full size spare.
Total came to right around $28k so with a $13k down payment it comes out to $285/month for 5 years.

Congrats! And what an amazing price! I'm jealous!

33mpg highway isn't bad for a pickup, either.

If I go back to work next month, I probably won't be in the market for a new vehicle until after the first of the year. However, I'm definitely going to go test drive one as soon as one of my local dealers has one.

It has been 30 years since I owned a Ford, maybe it is time that I give them a try again.

Specs are fantastic:

* 1,500-pound payload capacity (37 bags of 40-pound mulch)

* 250hp turbocharged 4-cylinder Ecoboost ICE can tow 4,000 pounds (typical 23-foot camper)

Quick question as I've not researched the truck at all...no real interest as it's woefully inadequate for my uses. C'est la vie...nice looking truck for what it is, tho.

My question is....you realize that "typical 23-foot camper's" listed weight is its dry weight and once one adds in potable water, grey water, batteries, and all the typical crap stored in a camper of that type (dishes, linen, TV, etc., etc.), the weight easily climbes over 5000# and potentially hits over 6000#. I know the campers I've towed and weighed on a CAT scale are much, much heavier fully loaded than the "advertised" weight found in the camper's mfgr. spec sheet.

Same as the cargo capacity....1500#, but has the driver been accounted for in that capacity? And is the capacity derived, as usual, on the stripper vehicle of a particular engine/trans combo and have, in very small print--usually marked with an asterisk or footnote--the disclaimer that any and all options added to the vehicle negatively impacts towing/cargo capacities?

Just something to think about....

i like it. But cynically i present the following:

Maverick midcycle refresh:

Manager: Sales haven't been as high as we expected so we need to make some changes. Marketing has determined our buyers prefer a more aggressive vehicle. So we will be increasing the length by about a foot and height by 4 inches. Also we'll be dropping the entry level hybrid engine and going with a more powerful ICE.

Engineer: but doesn't that make this the same a Ranger?!

Manger: No because we'll be increasing the size of the Ranger.

Engineer: But then the Ranger is the same as the F150!

Manger: About that at the next refresh we'll be increasing the size of the F150.....

That's an excellent point! Personally, I'd love a little truck & an A-frame pop-up camper and just be able to bug out for the weekend anywhere, have AWD available, etc. Although the TrailManors look pretty good too & are only 3200lbs max:

Just a quick update. So I went down to the dealership today and signed the paperwork for my wifes new Maverick. Made sure all the options we selected on Fords website were correct and the sales rep told me he would put the order in. How exciting!

That price still seems crazy low given all the product shortages and what has been going on the used market.

Yep the entry level price on this little truck is insane. I know we are taking a leap of faith here in buying in early but if there is one thing that Ford knows how to do very well it is building a truck.
On the flip side this is Fords response to dropping their entire sedan lineup. That alone speaks volumes and makes me think that they though this through and has been in the works for quite awhile.

Truck bedcap spotted! This would be dope for moving computer parts & having a triage station onboard!

Although when you think about it, it's really just an even uglier Forester at this point lol...

Practical, like you said... it sullies the look of what's actually a fairly charming truck.

Me? I'm still hoping Ford has a PHEV or full EV model in the roadmap. I like the thought of an everyday hauler that you don't have to think about refuelling when you're just commuting to work or grabbing a few bags of fertilizer.

I don't think they're going to do a full EV Maverick soon. Since I hear this is based on the Ford Escape, though, I'm hoping they might be able to fill all those cubby holes with batteries to make a PHEV.

Yeah I thought the price was over the top to considering you can get a Ford OEM Ranger topper for about a grand less. I'm not in the market for one but lets hope aftermarket companies like LEER and ARE can bring a more down to earth priced topper to market for the Mav.

Whaaaaaaaaat the heck lol. You can get a bedtop lifter for $2k!

I’m curious actually which Sport model it is, that doesn’t make the prices that odd depending on the model. A Sport Hi-Liner is 2,400$, Super Sport is 3,600$, and a GB Sport is 3,500$. My thought for the offerings and the extra small bed leads me to think it’s a GB Sport model. To a lot of people, the GB Sport was one of the first good looking small truck short bed cap as it’s shape looks good on modern trucks, and not a glued on rectangle that looks like it was taken from a bigger truck.

What a great design. Basically a Subaru Forester with a truck bed! A lot more compact in-person (especially height-wise) than I thought, based on this video:
