My Mazda was in the initial batch and still need to get it done. Last time I checked, they said the parts are not available yet.

Yea I would call the dealer weekly or ask for your name to be put on a list as I believe Takata will be bankrupt before most get new airbags and others will take a while to make enough.

How long have you been waiting?

I got the first letter in August, but it stated that parts were not available yet and a follow-up letter would be sent. I gave up waiting and called in Oct and still waiting. Luckily it only is the passenger side airbag that needs replaced and I don't take people around.

You may want to re-check the recalls. When I checked a few months ago, my Honda was only affected by the passenger side airbag recall. However, more recently, Honda's recall website lists the driver's side inflator as being included in a recall as well.

I called the dealer about 1-2 months ago, but parts were not available back then. I'll try again next week.

I need to get it taken car of. I haven't been driving the car much so it's a problem of out of sight out of mind.

At the dealership right now getting my airbag inflator replaced. Took only 2 weeks for the part to be ordered. They said it should only take an hour to replace.
Well all done now with the recall...it did take an hour as promised.

Funny that this thread popped up today, I just got my call notice today. It does, however, state that parts are not yet available.

Got my recall yesterday also for the airbag that was already replaced once. Bad thing is that both airbags are now in question, just not the passenger. I also like the part about a temporary part will be added until a replacement is available.

Mine drivers side got replaced probably 3-4 months ago. It had been over 3 years since the notice on mine too.

Hmmm strange. My Girlfriend drives a 2009 Toyota Matrix and just got a recall notice last week for the front airbags with the exact same issue as this thread states that they may become unstable and send shrapnel into the car if they went off. Maybe toyota and Ford use the same airbag manufacturer.

Wow thats some epic fail right there, why would they all use same company? when something goes wrong it can be a screwup of epic proportions, always better to diversify with manufacturers IMO.

Takata held 22% of the airbag market share in 2014. 7.9 million cars were sold in the US in 2014, and 22% of that is still 1.7 million.

Recalls do not affect every model from each company, so I'm not entirely sure where you're going with this. If there was no diversification literally every airbag-equipped vehicle on the road would be recalled, which is clearly not the case.

That's a great view if your a risk manager. The manufacturers got hosed on this one. For Takata it was easier to sell shoddy products. They got a big market share. The made their money then declared bankruptcy when the chickens came home to roost.
