Ford to scrap Mexico plant, invest in Michigan due to Trump policies

Ford Motor Company on Tuesday announced plans to cancel the building of a $1.3 billion plant in Mexico and instead invest $700 million in a Michigan assembly plant, directly tying the decision to “pro-growth policies” championed by President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump had previously been critical of Ford’s plans to build in Mexico.

CEO Mark Fields, speaking at an event at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, said the policies that Trump “and the new Congress have indicated they will pursue” were vital to the company’s decision.

“We believe these tax and regulatory reforms are necessary to boost U.S. competitiveness,” Fields said.

The investment in the Flat Rock plant is set to create 700 jobs, according to Fields.

Just wait until the reports come out that show it only created 693 jobs. Then won't you feel foolish.

It's interesting that this rich guy knows what policies Trump is going to push but we don't. I'm also interested to know which specific policies are going to make American labor costs competitive with Mexican labor costs, because we could implement zero taxes and zero regulations and they'll still get killed by labor costs.

This sort of cheerleading is weird, incredibly transparent, and kind of pathetic. The US economy created almost 200,000 jobs in November and we're going to have a thread about a claim for 700? This is such incredibly tiny potatoes that it's hard to see why anyone outside of people who might work there would care.

If I were a CEO and decided to do anything related to jobs here I would credit Trump with it, it's pretty obvious that he's incredibly easily manipulated so long as you flatter him. Take what Softbank did for example, they took an investment they were already making and credited Trump with it. Why? Almost certainly because they want their T-Mobile merger approved. Smart move on their part, bad news for the rest of us.

I'm optimistic about our future...so sue me.
No. You're grasping for every possible piece of evidence that supports your belief that liberals are idiots and conservative policies are good. You are incapable of being critical of any evidence that tells you what you want to hear.

Well that's some good news.

Now I hope the price of the cars doesn't go up significantly.
Or are we going to get a gov't kickback if we buy Chevy?

It's funny to watch those who whined about how unamerican and hateful of capitalism and freedom Obama was when he tried to use the bully pulpit stand up and cheer for Trump.

Yes, LOL. Your anger and hate has been on display this morning. You better hope karma doesn't serve you what you've wished on others.
It's been on display Since November. I've been fighting the good fight for those less fortunate than me for decades. My karma is fine. Thanks for your concern.

I'm damn glad to be cheerleading for America...as weird and pathetic as that may seem to some.

Odd that I don't remember you posting any threads like this when Obama was in office despite him presiding over robust job growth for nearly eight years. What changed?

I'm just confused as to why a meaningless number of jobs (in a national sense) is worthy of attention.

Hey Ford...big mistake! Go to Mexico...you're going to get killed by labor costs in the U.S.! Ford management knows nothing...says a pathetic hack who has it all figured out at just how fucking stupid they are.

only in P&N will the looney left snub their noses at Americans keeping their jobs.

its down right disgusting.
There is a difference between snubbing our noses at Americans keeping their jobs and snubbing our noses at the preposterous idea that Trump is actually responsible for this, not that I expect you to be able to see it.

It's always interesting to see people's perceptions of reality shift based on partisanship. I remember some polls right after the election showed a dramatic increase in the number of Republicans that thought the economy was doing well right after the election despite Trump's election being the only thing that changed (there was a decrease in this by Democrats but the effect wasn't nearly as large). Similarly on here I predict dramatically increased optimism by conservatives and a sudden acceptance of BLS data and other economic metrics so long as they continue to stay positive despite years of talking about how they were 'cooked'.
