How much current is avaiable on the 5V rail?

Preliminary guess....spend another $35 and get a 300W+ power Supply

<< If outpost is fry's...Why TF can't they offer the same deals as fry's >>

Because fry's uses these deals to get people into the store. They have a very low margin on them and it does not add anything to the bottom line P&L.

It's the other $500 I spend when I get there they make money on - Not the stinking $79.

I hate going to that store but not near as much as my wife hates for me to go.

OK, what's the difference on a website?

You all need cold shower. You are getting outdated crapy MB that is going out of production plus decent bottom line CPU you could get for $40 alone. The fan you get is a waste since you cannot use it with any faster processor.
And what for? To feel great you saved $10? You are like woman going berserk in a shoe store that wants to buy shoe because they are on 10% discount.

Hey barabas, seems like this thread is not for ppl like you. I guess you're out there looking for the Athlon XP 2100+ and best performance mobos that give you 120fps on Q3 at 1600*1200*32, oh yeah 3dmark2001 scores should be above 8000 as well, there are a lot of ppl (like me) who would like to buy a cheap combo such as this one.

I am sure this "bottom line cpu" and "crappy mobo that's going out of production" will do fine for those who are currently using slower than 700Mhz or for those who want to build a cheap 2nd or 3rd pc.

<< decent bottom line CPU you could get for $40 alone. The fan you get is a waste since you cannot use it with any faster processor.

BTW where do you get this cpu w/hsf for $40? Oh, you're looking to buy this cpu for the purpose of using the fan with a faster processor, are you gonna throw the cpu away to get advantage of the fan? Or are you planning for another year when you'll upgrade the cpu and this fan won't work with that faster processor?
For me, if this fan works with this Duron 1.0, it's fine.

This "crappy" mobo has got 400+ reviews on newegg, wonder why so many ppl are still buying this crappy board.

BTW the crappy mobo alone costs at least $60 (if buying from a good retailer), and the retail processor at least ~55. Including shipping costs, saving $30 on $120 appears to me like a 25% discount.

It showed up for me at $89 also, but since it's such an awesome deal I had to get it! It was only $95 shipped, whereas the same items from newegg would total $115 shipped. Just wish I could have gotten it at $79 :frown:

Barass.

The fan that comes with it is the same fan that comes with 1800+ cpu's factory stock. Not a swiftech that costs more than this whole combo shipped.

I have one of these combos with an overclockers bios on the board. 143fsb. 1430mhz with an alpha 8045. radeon 8500.The dam heatsink costs the same as the cpu. But it's stable. voltage modded the cpu to 1.85 volts. is this my main rig no. This is my second rig

Main rig 1.8a p4 northwood at 2808mhz,cooled with a dangerden maze 2.2 with 2 85 watt pelts, 512 pc3000 ram. OC'd to to 415mhz ddr. epox 4bda2+ ,b voltage moded for cpu at 2.03 volts, pny geforce 4600, watercooled. 345core/750mhz memory, 2 western dig 120 gig 8 meg cache raid 0, 40x liteon cdrw, 16x dvd. 2x 20.1 inch dell fp2000 LCD's, also found on this forum for $1260 shipped. They are usually $1699.

Im not afraid to spend money, And i dont buy junk. These boards are stable, and i use these combos to upgrade a lot of computers. What for the price compares Barass?? could you recommed something for under $100.

This is a deals forum and this is a deal. Everyone knows about the board and cpu. And the K7S5A's. Honestly these are the most stable boards i use for amd systems, and i use about 20 a month. I worry everytime i put a via chipset board out to a customer, because they saw the kt266a or 333 is 5% faster then this board that costs less than half as much. This is the only board ECS has ever sold that was worth a dam. They should quit now.

I can get the board for $43 from a distributor, and i do unless i can get them cheaper on outpost. But its hard to get retail cpu's cheap unless you buy a lot. And unless you sell all of them, you lose$$$ So i save $10 using outpost. It adds up.

Dam now im ranting in the deals forum, forgive me all.

I do not sell or solicit any business on here nor would i ever. Im here for the deals like everyone else. Most of my main computer is from deals on this forum. The vid card TCWO for $329 4 weeks ago, the WD's 120's $143shipped The dell deal, the 40x lite on from dell $80 the 16x dvd's $37 dell.

I see you just joined so in here dont trash people we dont need a cold shower, we know what were getting and what we are buying. I bought the 1800+ ecs combo's 3 weeks ago when they were $159. that was hot. This is a nice cheap upgrade for people still rocking the celerons and want a cheap boost.

Please read the forum your in "Hot Deals"

Dam now im ranting in the deals forum, forgive me all.

I have been running this setup (soon to be second sys) for three months,
with the cpu clocked at 1.2 using a silver trace pin. I also raised the voltage.
It has performed very well for me. I left behind a PII 400! I one happy
camper with this setup! BTW I payed $119 & was happy with the bargain
at the time.
Here are before & after images of the benchmark results.

nice benchmarks patterson. All with a little work on a "JUNK" CPU/MB combo.

on the 1 gig oc'd to 1433 im getting 4014/1922 in sisoft. And i know your Memory speed has to be twice what they were.

The heatsink that comes with the 1 gig's has a better fan than the 950's. Im using an alpha for the 1433, but it will do 1333mhz with the factory heatsink lapped and AS3 paste.

I grabbed one taking in mind the risk of getting a rotten apple and getting aggravated dealing with Outpost for return/warranty . Hopefully the 250w case/power supply I have laying around will run it and I'll have home for the other extra parts I've saved .

man i got a couple of these mobo's running is ass-load cases. They dont need a special power supply imo.

Get the OC bios and some DDR ram and crank that mofo up to 143/143 or 147/147 and you'll have a super hot fast cpu.

So according to a lot of you so called hardware afficiando's out there, the ECS K7S5A is a piece of crap right?

How about the #1 selling motherboard of 2001? How about ECS selling so many of them they beat out Asus for the year, becoming the #1 motherboard manufacturer?

Sure the board isn't perfect, but you guys are all about price-to-performance right? I've built hundreds and hundreds of systems with this board. Sure, I've had to RMA a couple, but that's life. I've had to RMA just about every other brand at some time or another too...

Get a life people, for $79 this a good deal.

Got home from work to find a box from Outpost with my Duron/ECS (damn, I got ripped off and bought at the $89 price ) and one from Newegg with a GTS video card. Those were the last parts in the pipeline, so the system goes together tomorrow. I've built 2 machines using the K7S5A and not had a problem. Both are running strong and stable and with a retail boxed CPU it's a hell of a deal even if you wind up paying $89 instead of $79. And Outpost doesn't burn you on shipping either, just a bit over $5 for delivery to me unlike many others who'll try to charge $20 for shipping a combo like this. IMHO it's worth the risk of dealing with Outpost if an RMA is necessary.

Patterson, I'm shooting for exactly the same numbers you're getting, this isn't the #1 overclocking combo on the market, but 1.2 should certainly be doable. Now where did I leave that pencil...?

Got one for $89.00, even for that price it is a deal, add some crucial 128mb DDR memory for $34.00 from Z-buy.com, original Radeon DDR for $39.00 over at newegg, and basic 20 gig hdd from newegg as well, you can have a quite speedy setup for about $200.00, now thats nice..

Got mine yesterday. Man, that was fast. The shipping box was bashed, but the mobo looks OK.

Just waiting on the HD, video card, and floppy from newegg. This'll be the second K7S5A build for me. The first is our "game box" and it is awesome. No overclocking required!

all i did was the pencil trick and 133/133 in the cpu set up. Boom 1333mhz.

And as of today it's $89 when i try it. I have 5 of them shipped at $79 though. 3 the first and 2 the second. Guess they didnt care about the one per customer

<add some crucial 128mb DDR memory for $34.00 from Z-buy.com>

SHEEIT! Last night I happened across a Z-Buy invoice from 10/14/2001 and one of the items on it was:

1 MICRON 256MB DIMM PC133 7.5ns Unbuffered Memory -- $25. And that was when they were doing FREE shipping too!

Now why TH didn't I buy a half dozen of them instead of one??

This is a little late, but when I ran into the $79 vs $89 problem, I called Outpost's toll free number. The CSR took my order over the phone for the $79 price. Just a thought, in case you run into this kind of thing in the future.

ECS has no problems with overclocking with the overclockers bios?? not a lot of fsb speeds but it is there. Hitting 1333mhz with the stock bios on one. 133/133 I have a 950 duron on one i bought 2 months agodoing 1425mhz. 150fsb. The next setting up is 166fsb, but it wont do it. Yes it doesnt go 1 mhz at a time like the good boards. just 100,103,105,107,110,112,115,124,130,133,136,143,146,150,166,fsb speeds memory and cpu and a nice mix of higher or lower on the memory. there is a 166/200 also.

Just my 2 cents also
