Formatting problem

well i put in my windows xp disc, and clicked install. went through the menus and went the was preparing it canceled and said "setup was unable to read from or write to drive C. if a virus scanner is running, disable it and then restart." i dont see a virus scanner running and checked my processes. did msconfig and restarted in diagnostic and it said the same thing. maybe im doing it wrong or what can i do to fix it, thanks!

See if there is a boot sector virus scan enabled in your BIOS, if so, disable it.

exactly how do you do that?

Switch on your computer.

Start tapping the "delete" key (One of the group of 6 keys next to the numeric pad)
Careful what you change in BIOS.

Look for something along - Bootsector virus scanner - Enabled or Auto (Change to disable)

You also may have to load a driver for your hard drive interface.
