Formatting

Ok, this is not really important.

But I's like to know a little more about formatting.

I am going to give one of my old HD's (not Harleys of course) to a friend. I have formatted it once.

Ok, now the information is still there but no "pointers" (I'm not really sure how it works) to the actaul files - am I correct?

If I format it once more - does it affect the result aboute the information that is stored?

Instead of just format it once more with same settings and I would format it with another allocation unit size? Would that affect the information on the drive?

Lets say that I format the drive three times and every time with different allocation unit size, would that affect the information that is stored on the drive?

Ok, if you just want to get rid of stuff just get DBAN and it will kill EVERYTHING you had on that drive. No traces, or barely any. The only way you would recover information is probably to disassemble the platters and get a magnetic reader hoping you can pick up traces of data (assuming the drive is pretty old) because a 0 that was once a 1 for a long time will definitely be different from a 0 that has always been a 0

Does it matter? I started to wonder when I was formatting the drive and I'm just curious about it.

Hi, It's not nearly as easy to recover a drive that has been formated as it is on TV, but get a ZERO writing program ( sometimes called a low lever formatter) and have at it.
