When conservatives refer to 'real America' what do you think they mean?

There's nothing "coded" about Conservatism. It's simply a compendium of collective wisdom with regard to stuff that works.

Progressivism's job is to push the envelope; and that's OK.

Conservatives pick up the pieces after progressives ultimately nosedive into the pavement after advancing a couple of meters, and then set them up to try once again.

It ain't the liberals that crash the economy every time they get in power.

Can you give me some examples of how this applies to modern American conservatism? I would say if anything currently the situation is reversed. If you look at the DW-NOMINATE scores of congress it's pretty clear that modern American conservativism is a pretty radical movement.

Bankers acting under conservative policies.

I'm agree with you here. Simply look at GW Bush. He was given a surplus, cut taxes whoo goo lets party. Most middle income people didn't get much of a tax cut or even a rebate check, the he left office with a massive deficit.
We'll ignore housing and economy was a mess I'll give him that it was bound to happen at some point but he certainly didn't help it. Maybe saving some money would have been a good idea.
There also is the Iraq money that was kept off the books so Bushes deficit is even greater.
Being serious Democrats have been much better at money management than Republicans for around 2 decades. Think about how odd that sounds.

Grover Norquist's "no new taxes" pledge sounds kind of hard coded. Admittedly Trump & Bush(?) didn't sign it this cycle but that hardly counts as many.

Grover Norquist is the guy who wants to shrink government down to a size drownable in a bathtub.

That's not conservative. Useful government institutions -- and an argument ought to be had about which ones those are -- ought to be... Conserved.

We're fixating upon memes here, which is really stupid.

Remember, Republicans actually elected that crazy guy as a Congressman, to write laws for America.

Yep, and still a conservative policy.

Almost every Democrat Congressman / Senator, and President Bill Clinton...

Maybe if they didn't rubber stamp "conservative policy", you'd have some argument for the responsibility of 2008.

I've never heard an elected conservative state what you said. I may have heard similar statements in the 80s but I can't remember. I'd welcome a link to prove me wrong from an elected known fiscal conservative. I really want to be wrong.

Also thought it was John Walsh at first and was a little sad.

I did the same thing.

The America's Most Wanted guy?! WTF?!

Thankfully, this guy appears to be a Louie Gohmert/Alex Jones combo, so I can gladly revert back to not caring about what he thinks.

Authored by 3 Republicans, but passed by nearly all, and signed by a President Bill Clinton.

Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act

Good job Democrats.

Good point, President Clinton has a degree of responsibility for the crash. This was one of his worst moves as president. That does not absolve Bush of responsibility though. He had eight years to correct the blunder. It was bi-partisan idiocy and what you expect when representatives are beholden to huge money interests. What is really scary is that Hillary is a wholly owned subsidiary of the banking industry. It does not bode well for America as she will be the next President. The Republicans have no interest in regulating the industry either.
